Slama is the perfect example of a sell high prospect. We would repeatedly hear mumbles from the Twins about what he can't do. There was little opportunity given to even fail at the major league level. Yet if he wasnt going to fit into the plans, you move him when he is hot. Yes, sometimes you hope a player will reinvent himself (Benson) and play hot, after he has become the 4th centerfielder in the high end of the system. Will be interesting to see if Slama does land somewhere, although this year he ahs been terribly horrible.

Why do people have such an inflated view of Slama? I have nothing against the guy but this is ridiculous. He was never more than a C prospect with minimal value, maybe the kind of guy you can trade for a salary dump in August (such as when they traded Yohan Pino for Pavano).

I'll repeat, teams could have had Slama any of the past three seasons for no cost other than a 40 man roster spot. They all passed.

Funny stuff...in seriousness, this and Benson should remind the twins that there is a reason other teams sell high on prospects for proven MLB players.

I agree, the Twins should have traded all prospects that failed. That was a poor job by Terry Ryan.

Yeah, there was no 'sell high' moment for Slama. We (people who love K/9 and dominance in the minor leagues) loved him, but the Twins and apparently all other organizations never believed he had enough stuff. That was pretty clear, so there was no time in which they could have received anything in return for him.

I vaguely remember a small riot on the BYTO Boards when the Twins let Alex Smit go.

Maybe it was just Statfreak??

This thread is amazing.

Stupid post about Slama -> discussion about trading prospects -> Debate strategy discussion -> Princess Bride - > Peace

Not bad in fewer than 12 posts.

I'm starting to wonder if you understand that term.

Given the man-shaped bundles of straw previously beaten down in this thread, do you?
