Padres SS Tucupita Marcano Faces Lifetime Ban for Gambling on MLB

Interesting timing for this forum after a recent topic about the debate in reinstating Pete Rose and Joe Jackson. To be honest, this one feels a lot more like a formality in the investigation prior to the lifetime ban hammer incoming. Guess Marcano may not have been expected to have a sure fire notable MLB career, but he's probably headed to a foreign baseball league in the near future.

Major League Baseball is currently investigating Marcano (knee) for a violation of the sport's gambling policy, which could result in a lifetime ban, Jared Diamond and Lindsey Adler of The Wall Street Journal Report report.

Gambling is an addiction like anything else. And it’s getting to be impossible to avoid.

Addiction is not an acceptable excuse for behavior in my book, and this punishment will serve as notice to other players. Unfortunately, there's a pretty narrow path between unfair punishment and encouragement of damaging behavior. When it comes to betting on ANY baseball, it's cut and dried.

Oh, in case anybody is wondering. It's any and all baseball from kids playing on a sand lot in Korea to MLB.

We will agree to disagree. Casinos have always preyed on addicts to keep chasing that jackpot that will never come. Sports betting uses predatory practices (put $100 into our app and we’ll match it!) to latch onto addicts as well.
