What about Winder?

What's the general consensus on Winder? I thought he pitched pretty well last year and would be someone that the Twins would be able to count on as the 4/5 starter in 2024 - Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Paddack, Winder - but the shoulder troubles might prevent him from being a mainstay in the rotation. Twins desperately need a long-relief arm that is better than the likes of Sands and De Leon. Could Winder be that guy?

Winder pitched yesterday and finally stopped the bleeding after Seattle scored in the first six innings. It looks like he is no longer being considered as a starter, but is able to pitch multiple innings. 

He's been hounded by arm injuries the last two years (shoulder impingement) and hasn't been very effective either at Minnesota and St. Paul. I don't think he is even in the conversation for a starting spot next year. 

I do think there's a chance that Winder can be an important bullpen piece next year. I doubt he is put in high leverage situations for the balance of this year.

Do the Twins "desperately need a long-relief arm"? Sands has been on the active roster for a majority of the season and he hasn't been in any high-leverage spots in that time. When Sands wasn't on the roster, it was Headrick and again not many opportunites and no high-leverage work. The 13th pitcher on the Twins has almost completely been wasted.

This has been very true this season which is why I have mentioned a number of times that the Twins should just go with 12 pitchers and 14 position guys.

Winder may be useful in spots but has not shown enough to either start or be used in crucial situations. Trade bait?

With Polanco being activated while the Twins are in Missouri, and with two off days in the next week or so, it might be a perfect time to go with twelve pitchers.

The answer is to acquire 2 pitchers that are worthy of pitching when needed & carrying 13 pitchers……..at least until October.

Need 2 guys between now & Tuesday. Let’s go FO!!!
