Star Tribune article: Is Twins ownership under new boss Joe Pohlad losing patience in favor of urgency?

Tampa talks about making unpopular decisions as key to their success.  However, could their roster management be part of their attendance problem?

I think I've said many times that I resist calling Tampa a successful franchise at all.  They're a bit akin to the surgeon who brags that his procedure was a success but the stupid patient died.

I agree Steer was not needed long-term.  However, he would have filled a role now and brought a better return later which is how the Rays do it.  CES on the other hand is an elite offensive prospect who could be a difference makers for several years even if it is as a DH.  Mn, I would like to bring him in right now and send Kirilloff to the OF.

Any trade for 2 near ready prospects for a player with 1 year and a couple months is short-term focused by definition.  These types of trades always have the potential to sting long-term and that cost is absorbed for immediate gain.  That's ok if the have the prospect capital and a good chance for post season success.  You could argue we had the former but not the later.  IMO, Mahle was never going to be a difference maker, especially in the playoffs.  More importantly, this team, was far from a contender and had numerous injury issues.  Can we quit pretending we gained nothing and the cost was significant?

Then let's not try and pretend that Steer was the long lost solution at 3rd base like your last post insisted on then.  Hindsight is definitely 20/20, but I think anyone who would assume Steer's bat would be better than he was in AAA St. Paul as a 24 year old and nearly matched what he put up in High A/AA would be quite the reach.  Plus.....Jose Miranda had crushed AAA in 2021/2022 and shown enough in 2022 that he looked like a viable starter going into the season.

It's easy to say that Mahle was never going to be a difference maker now that we have seen him miss the last year and a half.  Last year's team was very flawed, and I still stand by that that Mahle was brought in mostly for 2023 than he was 2022 as the rotation was looking like a question mark this year but still should have been a shot in the arm for the cluster that was 2022's rotation.

CES is another discussion, though he is still going to a 1B/DH.  Also BTW, Jose Miranda put up a slash line of .343/.397/.563 as a 23 year old in AAA.  CES is putting .321/.392/.620 as a 23 year old.  CES is showing more power as evident in the slugging, but things happen.  Today's offensive difference maker for years to come can quickly become a 25 year old in a bad sophomore slump.  Hindsight is so much 20/20.

Good point.  That's probably why they spent the prospect capital they did last year.

Which makes it kind of weird that Falvey has come out and said they won't be making meaningful additions this mid-season. That has to mean they know their jobs are safe, or perhaps even just as likely, they were already told they weren't allowed sell off more of the future and take on more payroll to try to make up for what's happened thus far.
