I don't know the answer - I'm not sure where to find the answer.

I'm hoping someone knows and can provide.

What is the percentage of runs scored via the home run and how does it that number compare with other teams in baseball.

I'm only asking because it seems like the only way that runs cross the plate with us.

It has to be a high percentage.

I'd be interested to also know how that stacks up against some of the top HR teams of the past decade or so.  Particularly the 2019 Twins and Yankees.

I'd like to know that as well but for this year my curiosity is really high.

I know that we have produced some runs without the long ball but I can barely remember those moments.

Our performance with the bases loaded has got to be almost record setting bad.

Has the home run been our primary source of offense. My gut says Yeah... I think it is.

I definitely do as well.  I meant to include "also" in my first sentence, which I've now done.  It would be fascinating to know what that percentage is this year and how that stacks up against other HR happy teams of the last decade or so.

Wasn't intending to hijack your thread!

Not a Hijack at all.

This conversation should go where it goes.

I did some quick math.

91 Home Runs

We scored 131 Runs off those dingers

52 Solo

24 with one runner on

9 with two on

1 Granny

the Team has scored 313 Runs total

So 32%

So now the question is... how does that compare to our peers.

I think you did the math wrong, According to BaseballReference.com:

Total HR = 91

Total runs  = 313

Solo HR   =52;   52 runs

1B occupied =12; 24 runs

2B occupied = 9; 18 runs

3B occupied = 1;   2 runs

1B & 2B occupied = 8; 24 runs

1B & 3B occupied = 6; 18 runs

2B & 3B occupied = 2; 6 runs

Bases Loaded = 1;      4 runs

Totals:

Solo  = 52

1 on  =  44

2 on  =  48

3 on  =    4

Total  = 148 runs

148/313 = 47.3% runs scored via the HR.

I did it quick... Maybe too quick.

Thank You for the Correction.

Those teams rank 3,1,5 and 6 in Home Runs.

and 4,3,16 and 11 in Runs Scored

So.. our 47% isn't off the charts.

Perhaps... we are just looking at the way baseball is played in 2023.

It’s a vicious circle. Nobody tries to string 3+ base hits because BA’s are too low, and it’s highly likely to fail as a strategy. Meanwhile, BA’s are low, because nobody tries to get base hits. It’s a self-fulfilling spiral that the league has been experiencing for some time now.

It’s ugly baseball. And the 2023 Twins play the same ugly game that the best teams in baseball are playing. They’re just not good at it.

It was genius for MLB to shrink the package size to 2.5 hours. Less of a bad product is easier to push to the masses. Reminds me of the old joke…

“We held a raffle for Twins tickets….the winner got 3 tickets.”

“What was the second place prize?”

”5 Tickets”
