Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 We’ve heard/read reports from ST that pitching velocity is already high, at season levels and not early ST levels. So, I have a question I don’t have an answer for, and won’t, likely until September, or later into October, but will this be a detriment down the road of seeing tired or injured (knock on wood) arms? Some pitchers have ramped up early because of the WBC, but will it last through the season and into the post season? Or will we see regression? Thoughts?
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 I'd like to see some kind of independent evaluation of the accuracy of the radar guns in use throughout baseball. I don't necessarily disbelieve that pitchers are hitting much higher velocities today than in the past, but I don't necessarily believe it either.

I’m not talking about velocity in and of itself, that’s not my question, although some pitchers have stated it is their goal to gain velocity, my question/concern is about being at their top season form now, at the beginning of ST. Will they tire sooner, before the end of the season? Injuries for pushing themselves harder earlier? Can they sustain these levels through the whole season after reaching then so soon into ST? In past STs, we didn’t see these mid-season form velocities, sometimes not until April or May, and now we’ve hit them at the beginning of February.
