This is still going less well than I had hoped.

I mentioned last night I sensed a tailspin in progress.

 

This has all the makings of one. Everything goes wrong. Get pitching, don't hit. Hit, but pitch worse. Bullpen implosion. Bad managin'.

Rocco backed himself into a corner by pulling Ober at only 61 pitches. Yeah, he had given up 3 runs, but I still have more faith in him getting through the next 2 or 3 innings rather than trying to patch it together with Coulombe/Cano/Stashak.

We were never going to stay on a 100 win pace but it does feel like the winds are changing.?

I suspect there's an issue with Ober. Velo was off quite a bit.

I agree, but until we hear otherwise I will assume there wasn't. The bullpen is really, really missing a long man. Even if Dobnak isn't very good, he is badly needed. Smeltzer could also perfectly fill that role as well.

Personally I hate what I consider waisting a spot on a long guy. But I've been wrong before.

Yeah, in thought I don't like it either, but over 162 it's really valuable. And with 14 man bullpens, which I think we're going to have for the rest of the year, there is zero reason to not have one.
