gmarais66 Verified Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Say what you will about the Twins' pitcher signings this winter, but remember this, it can always be worse. The Blue Jays just signed 40-year-old pitcher Ramon Ortiz to a minor league contract. Yikes.... I apologize if mention of the name sparks any PTSD among readers....
Rosterman Verified Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Need someone who can talk to Dickey.....
Todd G Provisional Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I'd be more than happy to take Ramon Ortiz if we had the rest of their rotation also.
beehles Verified Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 That is a pretty odd signing from a team whose rotation is pretty much set now. At least they got all of their prized pieces before settling for dirt.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Minor league signings don't bother me. Teams need to try to keep their AAA clubs happy and competitve too.

Yes, Elarton and Lane are just organizational slurry, but the guys they signed for the rotation aren't a whole bunch better. Unless Gibson and/or Worley go crazy, the Twins will rank dead last in strikeouts again this year, and probably bottom 3 in ERA.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 A bit bizarre, but maybe they are rewarding him with a chance. That team has been very impressive this offseason.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Also, Ramon Ortiz would have been nice to have instead of Marquis last year to begin the season. Say that out loud to yourself.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 And the Cubs made decent use of him in 2011. 6.8 k/9 out of the bullpen in 33 1/3 innings
edavis0308 Provisional Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 MINOR LEAGUE DEAL. Move along, nothing to see here.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Apples to oranges. Comparing Ortiz to Pelfrey isn't fair. Let's compare Ortiz to Elarton.....which of those looks worse?
