And it cuts that annoying 10 day minor leagues waiting period down to just 1 or 2 days!

Mejia is doing his best to prove himself fungible, it seems.

 

In his two appearances with St. Louis, he recorded 9 outs... and allowed 9 baserunners.

 

In his first two games back with the Angels, he's recorded only 1 out and allowed 5 base runners (3 by walk). If he keeps pitching like this, I'm not even sure it's possible to stretch him back out for starting at the MLB level in 2019...

I had some high hopes as a steady 4th/5th starter back in the day. Man the wheels have come off. I feel for the guy

Silver lining: assuming the Angels don't add him back to the 40-man (and they'd be fools to do that after outrighting him this late in the season), Mejia can elect to be a free agent after the season.

 

He will still probably have to sign a minor league deal somewhere for 2020, but at least he will have his choice of destination.
