It's also possible that, at age 38, he might perform significantly worse than that, even with fresh legs.
If they work him into a game or two or a few out there I won't complain. I'm just happy that they aren't trying to force him out there everytime we don't have a DH, as I feel Gardy or Molitor would have.

I did leave out a couple of quadrants in my analysis.    It is quite possible that the guy that Cruz might have replaced for offensive reasons hits a 3 run jack while also possible that Cruz hits a cutoff that the defensive guy doesn't and that has an impact also.   I honestly have no idea how good or bad Cruz is defensively, how much more likely he is to hit a homerun that the next guy or how much more likely there is to be a fly ball in between the range of the regular outfielder and the range of Cruz.   I am guessing he is better than  Sano in right field and just as good as Jason Bartlett in center and honestly, as good as Willingham was in left.     Just thinking of those days makes me think, yeah keep the regular outfielders out there.

Amen to that. Some of the defensive configurations during the later years of Gardy were awful.
