Stephen Gonsalves

Drafted by the Twins in the 4th round of the 2013 MLB draft.

Stephen Gonsalves will be starting the 2018 season in the Rochester rotation.

His minor league numbers of a 41-17 record, 2.39 ERA, 9.7 K/9, 3.3 BB/9, and 6.5 H/9 speak for themselves.

I expect Gonsalves, Romero and Littell to pitch for the Twins at some point this year, if there are injuries.

I'd agree with that. I wonder who gets the first shot though, it might be Aaron Slegers.

Eades is probably the worst of these but first in line...Romero is probably the best of those 4 but he will probably be the last one called up...

Eades isn’t on the 40-man, though ... My guess is that he won’t be up at all unless/until that changes.

SMH, I meant to type Slegers... Not sure where that Eades thing came from...

Gonsalves is doing Gonsalves things in AA.

3-0 with a 1.77 ERA, 11.1 K/9 and just 4.9 H/9

The negatives are the walks and the pitches per inning being too high so far.

In 5 starts for Rochester, Gonsalves has been very good.

In AAA, he's 4-1 with a 2.39 ERA, 5.5 H/9, 0.7 HR/9, 4.4 BB/9, 10.9 K/9

He just does not give up hits.

I have been most impressed with his K rate this year. I really did not envision Gonsalves striking out so many at AAA. Maybe I have not been high enough out Gonsalves in the past as I saw him as a 3-4 rotation piece. Is he a 2? Exciting stuff fo sho!

Stephen Gonsalves is being called up and will start Monday for the Twins :)

Between AA and AAA, his numbers are:

12-3, 2.76 ERA in 120.2 innings, 5.7 H/9, 0.6 HR/9, 4.8 BB/9, and 9.0 K/9.

It will be interesting to see how his pitching style translates. Hopefully he doesn't nibble around the edge of the zone and rely on guys to chase.
