Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 We've really dropped the ball here without a SCIENCE! thread. Let's share interesting science articles that we find... Today, an 11 year old named Gitanjali Rao was awarded "America's top young scientist" for designing a compact device that detects lead in drinking water. Very cool! Russian cosmonauts also claim that they discovered extra terrestrial bacteria on the hull of ISS! How neat would that be if we found concrete proof of life on other planets?!

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Meh, the bacteria are most likely contaminants from within the ISS itself, introduced during EVA's or docking procedures or some venting. Far more interesting for me is our recent interstellar visitor, Oumuamua. https://www.wired.com/story/the-physics-behind-the-strange-interstellar-asteroid-oumuamua/

But it is still interesting nonetheless!

Speaking of rockets, we might get lucky on our upcoming Florida trip. With about a 24 hour delay (entirely possible) we could get to see a SpaceX Falcon launch on a resupply mission to the ISS. Fingers crossed.
