Ultima Ratio Verified Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 NEWSFLASH: Florimonsy chasing batting title? Now batting .500 even. Good on ya kid!
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 With that hit, Florimon is back to .500.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I didn't get a chance to review where Duensing's pitches were in the zone tonight, but perhaps he had a chat with Diamond about how to get the ball down and on the corners. Let's hope the this outing is a real change rather than an aberration. His location inside against RH was far better tonight, which for him is huge. His breaking pitches were hitting the corners as well.
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 The A's announcers are drooling a little over Florimon.
Ultima Ratio Verified Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 After being swept sleepless in Seattle I was worried the team was ready to crawl into the fetal position the rest of the way. I very glad to be disappointed. Some want us to lose games the rest of the way in order to climb up the draft board. I want to see the team compete with these new guys and win as much as possible... on a good note going into next year.

Ultima Ratio Verified Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I've been mildly impressed with Fien every time he enters a game. Concur.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Makes you wonder how on earth he was hitting .259 with a .318 OBP in Rochester, I know it's early but he sure looks capable of a lot more than that. Maybe it's Joe Vavra......procede. Yeah, curious for sure. Pitchers will adjust to him, but his defense is really smooth and doesn't look like he has any physical weaknesses to be concerned about either. (Strong arm, good range, good instincts) As long as that continues I see no reason not to throw him out there the rest of the year and see how the league handles him here.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Burnett huh? My money was on Burton. or Perkins again.
Ultima Ratio Verified Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Darnit, was really hoping Florimon would get the chance to go 4-4. Let down....

Top Gun Provisional Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Give the kids a chance to play. I know new young blood always helps a team this time of year.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Given the dearth of starting pitching, I want Duensing to succeed as a starter. He's been successful before so I don't see why he can't be successful again. Finding a lefty reliever (to replace Duensing) is a lot easier than finding an above-average starter as we have seen. I liked what I saw of Florimon in ST. He's got nice tools and I think he might even have a bit of power if he established that he can make contact. I also liked Fien in Florida. He does have a live arm and throws pretty hard. He seems to be an extreme fly ball type, but his results have been very good so far. It looks to me like he has a position to lose in next year's bullpen.
