Trade?

With the Twins shockingly still in the postseason race (and even leading the second wildcard spot) and playing their best ball of the season, will Falvine be able to add a reliable bullpen arm or two or a bench bat or are they comfortable with the roster construction as it currently stands?

I think the front office is hoping that the return of Santiago and Mejia will bolster the pitching staff, allowing them to move Gee into relief. Somehow the thoughts of Turley and Boshers also coming up remain stron, as well as Slegers, although it would be nice to see him start.

On the bat side, the BIG plus would be Sano. If Castro returns sooner than later the Twins have the luxury of three catchers. Grossman gives them additional outfield depth. I think they will also look at Palka as a DH/OF possibility.

Not sure if there is anyone they can trade for (besides Verlander) at this point, and rosters will be set Friday for the playoffs (although the number of guys on the DL gives the Twins a lot of flexibility here).

I wasn't thinking as big as Verlander. That's not the Twins way. But even a guy like Jerry Blevins or someone has got to be better than our current options and with a very light price tag.

Fuentes and Mahay helped the Twins considerably in 2010 and cost next to nothing. There's no reason not to make a similar type deal this year.

If I were running a team I wouldn't be too worried about the current options when the team goes 19-10 for the month with one game to go. The 2010 team you cited never won 19, possibly 20 games in a single month.

I wouldn't call the September schedule "soft" but if the Twins keep rolling like they are, another 19-win month is not out of the question because the matchups look favorable overall. (Which might be unfortunate as this would give them the #1 WC seed, and the Twins play worse at home).

No, but they were consistently better than this year's team. Going into the final month with this pitching staff is terrifying.
