This is why I don't like On Base Percentage. It fails to reflect the additional value of taking second after a walk on a sleeping defense.

Because that is what the official scorer ruled it being.

Earlier this morning I heard he got credit for a stolen base. Just to clarify, did the scorer change the ruling or was the report I read wrong?

Basically, fielder's choice is an umbrella term that includes defensive indifference, or advancing on the throw, etc.
