brvama Provisional Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Smart play. Curious how that was scored since it wasn't a SB? Defensive indifference or an error on the pitcher?

ashbury Verified Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 This is why I don't like On Base Percentage. It fails to reflect the additional value of taking second after a walk on a sleeping defense. / My younger brother, like many Little Leaguers I'm sure, used to employ this play. One of his proudest youthful moments was during the playoffs when the opposing catcher shouted to his infield after he received ball 4, "watch out, he steals".

old nurse Verified Member Posted June 11, 2017 Author Posted June 11, 2017 Thanks, but I'm unable to access the link. Could you explain why it'd be a fielders choice for me.Because that is what the official scorer ruled it being.
Bill Brown69 Verified Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Earlier this morning I heard he got credit for a stolen base. Just to clarify, did the scorer change the ruling or was the report I read wrong?
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Thanks, but I'm unable to access the link. Could you explain why it'd be a fielders choice for me.Basically, fielder's choice is an umbrella term that includes defensive indifference, or advancing on the throw, etc. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fielder%27s_choice
