Game Thread: Twins @ Royals, 1:15pm 4/30/2017 AD

I figured that since things rarely go quite how you plan, i would just try to write a boring game thread intro. You probably aren't excited to read the creative processes that go into something like that. So i guess, um well then, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

Oh, since numbers are always borring... The number of the thoughts shall be 5.

1. Kansas. (as in Kansas City Royals) An ordinary plain state. But, well, it so happens we're not in Kansas any more. My head's just spinning trying to figure out if we were ever there to start with.

2. Problems. The Twins have some. It's a normal growing process. It's not like some sort of wizard is going to give Buxton a bat, Grossman a glove, Gibson an out pitch, or of course, assist with the Twins' general difficulties in getting home.

3. Last game... Sano really housed them, didn't he?

4. And to make it really boring, nothing is more reliable than in-depth analysis. I am sure most of you have perhaps noticed i drew a small bit of inspiration from the works of Frank Baum, or at least its more publicly accessible adaptations. But there was symbology. Reliance on the gold standard, the yellow brick road, ybr... rbi, runs batted in, offensive metric standard. I forget precisely what the moral was... I just represent the lollypop guild. They say there's one of us born every minute.

5. Anyway, i wrote this strange technicolor game thread, and all of you were there!

Line ups and weather TBA...

Minnesota Twins:

Pitching: Phil Hughes (a north paw)

Lion ups: TBA

Kansas City Royals:

Pitching: Jason Hammel (also a north paw)

Lion ups: TBA

This game is going to be epic!  Multiple HR game by Sano. Multiple hit day for Buxton, Polanco 4 for 4, Kepler 4 for 5, Hughes complete game 2 hitter, Dozier lead off homer, Mauer 5 for 5.

Since the intro touched on the Wizard of Oz there's no jinxes today correct?

SSo1 ccc to answer your last question in the previous game thread ... ahem ... Paint Your Wagon and head to Arizona. Yes, you might have to park in a Camel Lot, but I've heard that in Arizona, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, so it's worth it. Just be careful not to end up in Brigadoon.

I would have to pass through Oklahoma, and not end up in the South Pacific? If all i get are hits, everything starts to sound like a Hammer.... stein... Er and hopefull that applies to the game as well.

Perhaps i shouldn't have taken that left turn at Albequerque...

I don't see how we can lose today. The Twins have released an official statement claiming we are now empowered to represent the Lollipop Guild. And on a related note, the Royals have oddly allied themselves with the Lullaby League. Wierd.

If you are leaving Lerner and Loewe land for others, we probably should stop here because then that could derail the baseball talk ... but I'll just add ... maybe you can catch a State Fair along the way ;)

From last night, but the thread was locked ...

Due tot he dry conditions in Arizona fall league, if went to one of their games, should i expect to park in a Camel Lot?

Yes, but only for one brief shining moment.

/ I see his question was already addressed but this warning seemed important

I had posted a bit prematurely in the expectation of being busy...

Here is what i left out:

Us:

1. Brian Dozier ( R) 2B

2. Max Kepler (L) RF

3. Miguel Sano ( R) 3B

4. Joe Mauer (L) 1B

5. Kennys Vargas (S) DH

6. Jason Castro (L) C

7. Jorge Polanco (S) SS

8. Eddie Rosario (L) LF

9. Byron Buxton ( R) CF

Them

1. Whit Merrifield ( R) 2B

2. Mike Moustakas (L) 3B

3. Lorenzo Cain ( R) CF

4. Eric Hosmer (L) 1B

5. Salvador Perez (R ) C

6. Alex Gordon (L) LF

7. Jorge Bonifacio ( R) RF

8. Brandon Moss (L) DH

9. Alcides Escobar ( R) SS

And i won't go so far as to gaurantee a win (or for who for that matter) but if i did, it would only be of the Gersh variety.

My doctor helped my premature posting.

Is that why you no longer ask what the score is before the start of the game? :)

I saw KC's lineup and I thought it was the cast of one of those productions.  Whit Merrifield leading off?  Seriously?  Is this a trick?

I'm looking forward to today's game- good vibes around this team right now for me. I'll be on the couch with a warm English Setter on each side of me, with a beer in my hand. Doesn't get much better than that.

Brandon Moss is going to have a big game. Pitch very carefully to him Hughes

I do NOT!!!!!!........ see that on MY Yellow Brick Road!!!!!

Hopefully not a Rhapsody in Royal Blue.

Per MLB, #2 for the month of April AND we still have today   ;) :

2. Miguel Sano, 3B, Twins

Stats through April 29: .297/.435/.649, 6 HRs, 20 RBIs

Home run percentage: 6.52

Total bases/hits: 2.18

Exit velocity (avg/peak): 98.7/113.8 mph
HR distance (avg/peak): 422/440 feet

Sano is last among the hitters on this list in home runs, but his average exit velocity of 98.7 miles per hour is tops in the Majors for hitters with 20 or more batted ball events. Finally restored to his customary position of third base, Sano is delivering on his potential at the plate in his age-24 season.

Game time pushed back an hour.  Bullpen should be fresh.  looking at the radar they probably can get it in, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had another delay.

According to FSN pregame Hughes looks like his dominant 2014 self and Mauer is almost back to "vintage Joe," soooooo.....we've got that going for us which is nice.

Here's something else you left out.

Starting pitchers: Hughes (Minnesota), R and Hammel (Kansas City), R.

Santana's start getting pushed back deprives him of the chance to go 5-0 for April, but it also prevents the possibility of a clunker depriving him of the chance for being named POTM. I'd say he has the inside track for that honor.

Edit: Oops, my apologies, you had the SP's in the first post.

Only quibble about the lineup:

If Molitor insists on having Joe in the top 4 of the order then why not switch him with Kepler. His historic OBP plays well batting second and Kepler is a lot more dangerous batting 4th. I suspect it would add more protection to Sano batting 3rd as well. Less likely to see a 4 pitch walk to Miggy.

How remiss of me.

I thought i had inclded pitchers in the initial post because i knew them...

But i did type their names instead of cutting and pasting so i might have misspelt.

Cutting and pasting on computers just doesn't taste the same...
