Players Tribune: David Ortiz Thanks Minnesota

In an unusual turn, David Ortiz said some nice things about Minnesota in an article for the Players Tribune. With the Twins and Red Sox meeting for the final time this season, Ortiz reflected on some of his moments as a young ball player and those relationships with the Twins players.

 

And he thanked the fans too.

I'm not sure there's any contradictions between this and the earlier article.  The earlier one talked about sparse crowds at the Metrodome (true) and not being recognized on the street (probably also true).  This one talked about people being nice to him, which doesn't disprove either of his earlier assertions.

I'll be happy when he's out of baseball.  If he goes into announcing/commentary, I hope it's in Boston or for ESPN.  Biggest 'All about me' guy I've seen in a long, long time.  Mr. Everybody has to follow old school rules except me guy.

The way the press treats him and Mussina really shows it is about personality, and not PEDs....

Big Papi is a class act, one of the bet power hitters of my generation, and a great ambassador for MLB. I remember meeting him a couple times when he was with the Twins, he was the most open and friendly guy ever.

 

I hate the Red Sox, but I hope he can win one last ring in his last season. It's nice to see legends go out on top.

 

Also he never got suspended for for roids, so give it a rest. Everyone was on stuff back then, or at least 50-60% of players.

 

He has continued to mash bombs even with tougher testing anyways. The dude is a first ballot hall of famer.

Or maybe it's because people generally like it when people admit to their mistakes and look to move on/get better from them.

 

The reason people hate A Rod, Bonds, Clemens etc is because of all the denials.
