Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Clear skies and getting a little muggy in the Twin Cities as the Twins try to sweep the Marlins. Miami sends Tom Koehler (3-6, 4.50) to the mound against Ervin Santana (1-5, 4.50). First pitch at 7:10 PM. Please follow Jeremy Nygaard's official coverage of the MLB 2016 amateur draft here and jump into the discussion. I'm not a big draft head, but even I get sucked into Twins Daily's good coverage of it. Here is a link to his final mock draft list. Skin in the game. I love it! Did I link to the TwinsDaily draft coverage yet? Here's the link. The word draft means so many things. All I will say about the draft tonight is this. I hope the Twins take the player who pulls the biggest load, quaffs the freshest drinks, and creates the coolest breeze behind him. Does that make any sense? If not, keep in mind it's only an early version of what I really think, and I'm still in the process of rewriting it. 1. Florida Marlins entered the league in 1993, and participated in an expansion draft with the Colorado Rockies in November 1991. From that draft the Marlins found Trevor Hoffman but soon after sent him to San Diego. Hoffman would go on to make second on the all time MLB saves list. 2. The first player the Marlins ever drafted was Charles Johnson, a catcher and Florida native who would go on to win a World Series in 1997 with the Marlins. 3. One guy who refused to be drafted was Muhammad Ali. What does this have to do with baseball? Well, true story, the Miami Marlins broke the news of Ali's passing two hours before it became public. Link to story here. 4. The draft will actually be taking place the same time as the game tonight, so perhaps Target Field management will put live draft coverage up on the scoreboard to give the people at the game something to watch. I'M JOKING PEOPLE 5. I am predicting a 3-1 Twins victory tonight. The math is simple: just add up the first rounders. Joe Mauer + Trevor Plouffe + Byron Buxton = 3, and Christian Yelich = 1. Giancarlo Stanton (as Michael Stanton) was actually a second round pick so he will probably fly out to the warning track in the 9th for the final out. MIAMI MARLINS 1. Ichiro Suzuki, RF2. Martin Prado, 3B3. Christian Yelich, LF4. Marcell Ozuna, CF5. Giancarlo Stanton, DH6. Justin Bour, 1B7. Derek Dietrich, 2B8. J.T. Realmuto, C9. Adeiny Hechevarria, SS Pitching: Tom Koehler MINNESOTA TWINS 1. Eduardo Nunez, SS2. Robbie Grossman, LF3. Joe Mauer, 1B4. Trevor Plouffe, 3B5. Brian Dozier, 2B6. Byung Ho Park, DH7. Oswaldo Arcia, RF8. Juan Centeno, C9. Byron Buxton, CF Pitching: Ervin Santana First pitch: 7:10 PM

I'M JOKING PEOPLE I don't think this is an outlandish idea... I mean, it may draw more applause than what's happening on the field at the time!

Blake Verified Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 If the Twins win tonight, would it be the first series sweep at home this year?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Fantastic job with the game threads, HBD!

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The white sox signed morneau? Whaaaaaaat
Blake Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 57/59But what is the record for runs given up in the 1st inning in the course of a season?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 The white sox signed morneau? WhaaaaaaatHmm, might have to go to a White Sox game to cheer him on. But I'll boo everyone else.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 But what is the record for runs given up in the 1st inning in the course of a season? They've given up 46 runs in the first inning.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I can't watch the game tonight. I'm at a Starbucks (yuck, but they have free wifi and I can sit there and not be bothered) so am watching updates on my phone. Crap. I see another run scored for the fish.

Wouldn't have scored without it. Also a wild pick off attempt directly led to the first run. Bad start for ol' erv
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 But what is the record for runs given up in the 1st inning in the course of a season? They also allowed a run 24 times in the first inning. In 59 games.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Sigh. I like Santana. I think he's cute and that's all that matters to me in hoping he does well. Yeah, I winky-faced you.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Welp, after two innings, I feel as though the twins had a long night celebrating their long two game winning streak and figured "f it, we've done enough this week" What I'm saying is, they look flat as a board

Yeah, I winky-faced you.Do you think he's cuter with or without the dreads? I'm wondering since I'm thinking of growing out a set for the summer myself. Oh, wait. I can't. They'd only come out the sides, and make me look even sillier. Never mind.
Blake Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Marlins are getting some cheap hits tonight.
Blake Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 They also allowed a run 24 times in the first inning. In 59 games.Serious question: are the Twins on a pace to break the all-time record?

Platoon Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Catching up on TiVo. Some of Parks swings are shall we say unusual.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Serious question: are the Twins on a pace to break the all-time record? I don't know what the all time record is, but for reference, the (40-120) 1962 mets allowed 121 first inning runs...they allowed at least a run in 55 games. The (43-119) 2003 tigers allowed 129 first inning runs...they allowed at least a run in 70 games. So 59 games in, the twins have allowed a first inning run 24 times and have allowed 46 runs. So they're on pace to allow a first inning run 65 times, and 126 total runs. So basically, we're well in line with the most historically bad clubs of all time.
spinowner Provisional Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Don't they have sports bars where you are?On second thought, you're probably better off at Starbucks
spinowner Provisional Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Interesting call coming up. Looks like the SS lifted Nunez's leg up.
