Twins Sign Logan Schafer (Minor League Contract)

The Twins have signed veteran outfielder Logan Schafer to a minor league contract and sent him to Rochester. With injuries to Danny Santana and MIguel Sano pushing the promotions of Byron Buxton and Max Kepler, the Red Wings were in need of an outfielder.

Schafer was playing for Lancaster of the independent Atlantic League this year. He has spent parts of 2011-2015 with the Milwaukee Brewers in a part-time role. He is 29.

I would have moved Granite and Palka up. And then moved Wade up to AA.

That said, maybe they plan to send Buxton and Kepler back down in 2 weeks, and just want a warm body. Of course, Wade and Granite and Palka could move up and then down too....

The good news is there doesn't appear to be a motive to call up Schafer to the big leagues since he doesn't have an opt-out clause. This appears to be a move for a warm body for a couple of weeks until the draft/promotions take place. I'm not going to get worked up over this particular move.
