I too enjoyed listening to strange and exotic radio stations late at night on my little blue hand crank flashlight radio. If it was dark in time, i could barely get wbbm from chicago with old time radio...

 

I used to spin the AM Dial when younger just to hear far away stations. 

 

If you do that now... They all have the same programming and it isn't as much fun.

I use the exit ramp in Fargo to check traffic in Bismarck.

Way back in the day, I was a weekend announcer at a small radio station in WI.  It was both AM and FM.  Except after the sun went down. 

 

By law, we had to shutdown the AM portion because WCCO AM went to full power.  Our little station would have caused static in WCCO AM's signal

I picked up Chris Davis in a fantasy baseball trade because I needed Park insurance and that put Park on the bench today.

I loved the job, but if you're not hooked into the voice over/commercial group, the pay is pretty poor.  Pretty much everything is automation now.  I miss John "Records" Landecker, Dr. Demento and The True Don Blue....

I remember doing a fly in fishing trip as a kid into northern Ontario.  My dad brought a radio up with us just for fun to see if we could pick up something.  During the day we didn't but at night we listened to the Cardinals game.  Picked up a St. Louis station all the way in Ontario.  Can't remember if it was AM or FM.

 

Thought it was very cool.  No internet back then...

Yeh, we didn't have all that many in ND, but (as they say in the Blues Brothers)  we had BOTH kinds of music-  Country and Western.
