My take on the whole Twins vs. DickBert thing

I didn't want to take away from the discussion on the Twins board, plus my article was really more about the general issue of players vs. broadcasters, but I put up a quick piece on Call To The Pen today about the whole issue, and I'd love to hear what Twins fans think about it...

It is laughable that some player complained. Dick and Bert are nowhere near critical enough (though I don't know if their criticism would be smart criticism). I really, really, really want to know which player it was. I have a hunch that it might be Dozier. It would be one thing if it were Nunez, Abad, or Duffey or . . . wait those are the three good players right now . . . in sticking up for other players even though they themselves were doing very well. But I am guessing that it was someone else.

I think a lot of athletes seem awfully insecure.......remember Lebron asking for a video of dunk to be taken down?

I am not sure I understand it, really.

As for Bremer, he did nothing wrong, imo, in mentioning this. It's part of the story of the season. It's his job to tell that story. The fact that they clubhouse can't handle mild criticism of the worst team in baseball says a lot about the clubhouse/player.

I hate to say it, but this whole thing reflects as badly on management as it does on the player or players involved in the complaining. The culture that doesn't insist on demanding more from its highly-compensated players ends up getting what it deserves.

It's way past time for the buttercups in the dugout to man up. With this year's pathetic performance, if these guys played in Philadelphia, Boston or New York the media and the fanbase would have long ago melted them away into little steaming piles of goo.

Frankly, it's why I mention that he goes through the dugout before each game, a practice I've found to be fairly common with most teams' broadcast guys.

I loved the Brennaman story...

Frankly, it's about ratings.  You can sit there and go through the motions with a team that's under performing, or you can create a controversy.

Honestly, Dick and Bert boring.  Brenner has the classic baritone radio voice.  Bert is the "color" guy who sounds more like a babbling gerbil every day.  Time to bring in new people.  La Pagnia?  Was that the guy on the pre-game show yesterday?  A couple weeks ago I think it was him and another young guy.  They acted sometimes like college kids, but they were still fun to listen to.

This organization is soft all the way down to it's gooey mushy core. They'd get eaten alive for these types of responses and their insular organization that refuses to let outside personnel into their safe space. Can't have anyone coming in and who might upset their cushy bubble. Things have been inbred and sheltered for so long they don't even realize how dysfunctional they are. This is how I imagine a new GM would look entering the organization:
