Bob Collins, MPR Newscut: As Twins burn, ownership fiddles

"If your baseball team is playing a must-win series before Mother’s Day, you have a very bad baseball team.

The Minnesota Twins, who open a series tonight against the best-in-the-league Chicago White Sox, are a very bad baseball team.

How did this happen? How could barrels of ink be spent on following the squad for more than a month in spring training and have not a single article pointing out that the team — currently 8-20 in the American League Central — isn’t very good?"

You can find the rest of the article here, by Bob Collins, MPR Newscut.

We are screwed if this is the mindset of the front office. This reminds me of the old nursery rhyme "3 Blind Mice"!

In regards to the barrels of ink comment, that's just how it is in the beginning of the season for every single team. Every columnist in the USA is going to try and put a positive spin on it because that's the beauty of it. Every team starts 0-0, nothing's going to stop us now, insert your favorite cliche here.

I don't think it's any secret that the Twin Cities lacks columnists, beat writers, etc. who would put together a hard hitting piece about the Twins' ownership/upper management. You'll never see that from Lavelle E Neal, Jim Souhan, Phil Miller, Reusse... Unless I'm mistaken, Chip Scoggins has no affiliation with the Twins. The others have their cushy chair and pre-game grub in the press box every game. They're not going to risk losing that privilege or their access to the team.
