Souhan: Park Won't Be Nishioka Part 2

I don't want to compare the two players. However the situations are similar - two guys coming off warty video game seasons in inferior foreign leagues. The Twins scouts really blew it on Nishioka - can we trust them to be right about Park?

Guess we'll find out.  That's why they play the games.

For some reason I thought the Twins only had one scout on Nishioka. That guy was enthusiastic about him and probably no longer works for the Twins

Let's not ignore the posting fee.  Still not a whole lot of money, $6 mil AAV, but his next 4 years (total) basically involve the same financial commitment as Nolasco's next 2 (total).  Which in Nolasco's case, could be enough to adversely affect roster decisions around him.

But it's only money right? Also, I have never heard one word from the Twins claiming they were low on cash. I appreciate you looking out for the Pohlads, but it really isn't necessary.

I really don't like saying bad things about players... Current or Ex.

However... Let's be honest.

It would take real effort to reach the Nishioka level of bust.

The scouting department would have to do a dinner for schmucks type thing to pull it off.

We shouldn't see anything like Nishioka again in our lifetime.

Just my 2 cents, but to say the two aren't the same is accurate.  To say that there aren't lessons learned from Nishi that could apply here is dangerous ground.  I whole heartedly agree that the Twins have a healthy amount of risk here, and for the money committed, this is a worthwhile gamble, but there's risk.. the biggest being whether or not the KBO can regularly be a feed for MLB.  There's one example (Kang) in recent history.  That one went well, and Park was a better player in the KBO than Kang was, but that doesn't assure us that Park will succeed.  I hope he does.  It certainly will be an interesting log jam if Arcia comes out swinging too.  Arcia, Sano, and Rosario can really only occupy two spots in the OF (assuming Buxton or Sweeney get CF).  That's a lot of time off for someone or possibly AAA/DFA for someone.

Trading Plouffe makes that a bit easier, though I don't really see it happening unless all of these guys are destroying the baseball in ST.
