Not a Twins article, per se, but check out the stat in the middle of the article - the Twins and the Rays last year had two of the three seasons in the last 14 seasons with a swing rate increase of 3% or greater.

I've been thinking about this is a bit lately, and I wonder if the Twins (and the Rays) are on to something here. With K rates rising meteorically in this league (and the strike zone expanding) it may pay to be a bit more aggressive on hittable pitches rather than wait around and have the count build against you.

Just some food for thought, I guess.

I'm not sure if it is a conscious organizational decision or not, but considering they were dead last in the American League in OBP, I would say the results weren't great.

Rosario alone accounted for a 2% team rise in free swinging...

Ha! This is probably true.

Cannot look at those numbers alone, and something is missing from that discussion.   We are looking at a difference between 44.8% in 2014 and 47.8% in 2015.   3%.  Need to know what the standard deviation is before one can tell whether that difference (6.69%) is even statistically significant, especially when your sample size is 2 (seasons.)
