Hmmmm.

Butera has a big enough sample of PA's to suggest that a cadaver could out-hit him.

NEVER over the Mendoza line in six seasons? Gimme a break!

Is there any source that suggests that Butera's hitting is better than his microscopic numbers?

Fryer may not be a MUCH better hitter, but he has never finished below .213 in five partial seasons.

May I say that Butera's hitting is not "TRENDING" as well Fryer's?

What I was suggesting was not that Drew Butera can hit, rather that if you gave Eric Fryer a similar number of plate appearances in a season, that there is a solid chance his BA would not be over the Mendoza line either.

Back on topic:

I don't think the Twins are planning to package Murphy with Plouffe.  I don't see it really happening. They will definitely add some AAA catching depth though.

As far as Butera goes, I think he'll find a major league contract as a backup catcher somewhere.  Possibly even back in KC.  They might even offer him arbitration as he's not going to be more expensive than any other backup catcher they find.  Either way, I don't think he'll take a minor league deal.

Valid, but usually more frequent PA's lead to improved hitting performance for a backup......but there is no guarantee.

I'd say very few teams think Fryer can hit higher then .243.

And even fewer teams think Butera will ever hit .203, since in his best season ever, he hit .198

I'm not saying Butera is better then Fryer.  I was simply stating that Butera would do just fine as a D-only C in AAA.  He wouldn't be the backup.  He might not even be the #3 C.

I hope Ryan looks for somebody better and finds that guy, but if he can't I won't upset at all.

I'd also have a hard time believing that the Twins didn't want Fryer back.  He just wanted an opportunity to be the backup I presume, something the Twins were not going to afford him with the recent trade for Murphy.

I'll guess that you wanted the Twins to do something about C?  The Murphy move probably prevented a Fryer return.

You are simply mistaking my "I won't be mad if he returns in the right role" to "I want Butera back or else" it seems.
