Molitor Finishes 3rd in AL Manager Vote

Twins manager Paul Molitor finished third in AL Manager of the Year voting. Texas's Jeff Banister was the winner, with Houston's AJ Hinch as runner-up.

 

Molitor got two first place votes, three second place votes, and 14 third place votes.

 

Patrick Reusse and Dave Campbell were the Minnesota voters for this award. They both gave Molitor a third place vote.

I'm a little surprised he came in third considering how bad the Twins were projected to do.  I have to admit, he was a much better manager than I thought he'd be.

I think he came in third because of how badly the Twins were projected to do.

I assume you mean he should have been second?  The Astros were projected for 4.7 more wins at Fangraphs, but they also finished with 3 more wins and a playoff berth which I think more than offsets the projected difference.

Maybe, but the Astros got a lot of "sleeper" love before the year began - esp from ESPN's Schoenfeld.  I don't think anyone expected the Twins to do anything but finish last again.  

 

Anyhow, good first year for Molitor.
