By this I'm of course referring to the topic of extra and especially high-energy solar flares and coronal mass ejections that could leave millions without power for months and cause up to $2.6 trillion worth of damage to the US.

I haven't given it much more than a passing thought, but it struck me that while I could certainly benefit from a reprieve from this neoteric age of electronic devices, the more we (humans) advance, the more dependent we become on unstable systems. Obviously, I could end up landing myself a reprieve from more than just the internet.

Which leads to the idea that this might be a great opportunity for third-world countries to step up and take control of America in its moment of vulnerability.

But kidding aside, what do you think? Sit back and enjoy the auroras, or freak out and make preparations for another Y2K? Okay, still kidding...but seriously, feel free to give this decided non-nerd an educated answer.

I am not going to alter my life for something that has a 12% chance of happening sometime in the next 7 years (Daily Mail article).  And even if it did I doubt there is any agreement as to how much damage it would cause.   I certainly don't think any 3rd world country has the infrastructure to handle such an event and invade the land of guns.

I thought Finland was the land of guns, and that we were Gun Land Jr.

The infrastructure in the U.S. has deteriorated to the point that it doesn't need external factors to fail. Neglect and steadily increasing demand will do the trick.
