Thinking about Laika (which just means 'dog' in Russian) makes me a little sad. Still, she's a hero in my book.

 

Julie is working counting mail-in ballots tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday, so I am making dinner, just for me. And feeding the boys, of course.

 

I could probably eat soup every day and not tire of it. There's a Cajun place near my office that makes a fantastic gumbo. Po Boy's there are most excellent, too.

I'd argue that a hard taco shell isn't bread. Would you use it for any other purpose? Now, a soft taco shell, I would, same with a pita.

Gyros are great too! Big fan of tsatziki sauce.

I sometimes use tzatziki as a veggie dip.

I think I'm at the age where I'm starting to turn into my parents. I used to boil my eggs all frenchy and underdone but lately I've been letting them cook longer like my mom used to make em. I like em that way more. So good.

I love egg salad, but the ratio has to be exactly right ... hard boil 8 eggs and use 4 whole eggs plus 4 yolks, use real mayonnaise and fresh dill. I also use a dab of yellow mustard.

If I'm having boiled eggs for breakfast, I want them soft or medium boiled; but obviously hard boiled when making egg salad.

I will seriously do this. I've struck out the last couple of years on Xmas gifts... Used to give him a non-fiction history book about WWII or some of his favorite Presidents every year.  Now I can't keep up with what he has and has not read.

Always thought it would be perfect.  If a bar closes at 2 a.m. in the morning, that's when the clock gets moved back.  They would then have another hour before closing :-)

Happy Election Day! Though most would say this is not a happy day.... I'm keeping the positivity STRONG today.... 

 

Why don't you start off your morning by celebrating National Cappuccino Day! Normally it's just coffee for me most mornings... But a cappuccino is a nice little curve ball during the weekly coffee routine!

Today is also National Harvey Wallbanger Day! A Harvey Wallbanger is made with 3 parts vodka, 1 part Galliano and 6 parts orange juice, poured it into a highball glass and garnished with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. In other words, yes please!

Today is also National S.T.E.A.M. Day! An initiative with schools today to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math! Most all of the hot jobs in the near future are focused on these traits...  I used to be pretty good at math until imaginary numbers were introduced in Calculus... It's amazing how much you forget the further away you are from the college years.
