...for the Yankees 27th ranked prospect and a slightly better version of Jim Hooey.

His point is that Ackley was once an untouchable prospect.......who could have at one time been traded for a real player.....but you can never trade prospects......

Drafted right behind Steven Strasburg.  Top 15-ish prospect a couple years running.  Mariners blog writers salivating at the prospect of him as an all star second baseman for a decade.

I think prospect writers generally consider him the most baffling miss of the last decade.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has some success in New York, could be a change of scenery guy.

That'd fit right in with Seattle's luck, no doubt.

Trade for a highly ranked dude, he tanks.  Trade one away, he prolly goes all Mike Trout.

This is going to sound preposterous, but playing in Seattle the last 8 years seems to crush the souls of position players offensively and I always chalked it up to the climate/environment. Sure the marine environment probably has something to do with it, but it has been 80+ degrees there for the last 4 months... and a lot of 90 degree days. They are breaking records heat wise.

Offensively, that place is cursed. I am not even going to make a prediction, but make a guarantee that as long as Ackley plays in the Bronx, he will be a 15HR, .280BA, .350OBP player.

I love Seattle (the city), but damn, I would not want to be a position player for their home town team.

Cano and Drano are very similar, the latter will dominate the former's career from this point on. Down the toilet. FLUSH!!!

I always thought Ackley was rated so high in large part due to being drafted 2nd overall.

I also think being a 2B with an OPS over .900 and a 55/38 bb/k ratio (yes, walked 50% more than k'ed) as a 22-23 yo in AAA helped.

He had pedigree, minor league numbers and scouts loved his swing. As stated, perhaps the most baffling miss regarding prospects of the last decade.
