How many current players are actually part of the future?

I agree 100%.

It would amaze me if Twins fans, of all people, did not recognize how totally uncertain the future is, regardless of what we think "should" happen. This team, whatever the reasons are, IS competitve and can be right in the hunt. That doesn't mean you trade away all of your prospects for a handful of magic beans, but you also certainly don't throw away your best current players just because you're afraid their value may drop by the offseason, either.

and this thread isn't about that at all. Why come into a thread about the future, and complain that people are talking about the future?

Some possible formulations, and a correction, part two:

(Plouffe could be traded out and Escobar, I guess, would be on the roster).

Anyway, the Old, Old, and more Old:

Suzuki

Herrmann

Mauer

Dozier

Escobar

Plouffe

Sano (no way not there in 2016)

Santana

Arcia

Hicks

Hunter

Rosario

Schafer/Robinson/Vargas

Hughes

Santana

Pelfrey/Milone

Gibson

May

Meyer (has to be there in 2016, somewhere)

Thompson

Boyer

Duensing

Stauffer

Fien

Perkins

(some shifting in the bullpen could happen with Thielbar, Tonkin, etc.)

I think an interesting aspect of this discussion is, if the Twins keep on winning at an acceptable rate, how quickly will they incorporate their highly touted prospects?

One could envision a scenario where there could be substantial roster turnover in a very short period of time.  Would that even be wise if the Twins keep winning?
