I don't see Bregman staying at SS and he looks like a good player but not a great prospect.

 

Assuming Rodgers, Tate, and Swanson are gone, I would roll the dice on Aiken.

 

However, the Twins will probably not.

 

Allard (if heathly), Tucker, Nikorak, Harris, and Fullmer (he's probably too short for the Twins) are intriguing.  

I have been thinking that Bregman would stick at short since last year. I really like the way that he charges everything, making up for his weaker arm, and it allows him to take more time for his throw. Everything that I have seen from him makes me think he is a big league shortstop.

Bregman is NOT a defensive SS the further he goes, he's at best a Ryan Theriot SS and even that's a stretch.  Most MLB clubs rate him as a 2B due to his glovel

Um, he is better than Theriot, you can pick whether you want a slightly below average shortstop, or an above average second baseman, and if the Twins don't think that he can stick at short that shouldn't stop them from drafting him.

Fulmer has major helium right now. BA has him going #1 now. The top pitchers vary from site to site. One day I want Funkhouser/Harris and the next, I hate them (based on what I read). Can we get a "Top 5 SP's" list from some of you draft junkies?

This draft is weird.  You see guys #1 and literally #9 on another board.  The only guy I see consistently top 3 or so is Tate.


 


Given that I have not followed the draft much and I was irate in 2012 that we missed out on Appel......I should just  not comment.

Yeah, missing out on Appel doesn't look so bad.  And it's also a good reminder of how his agent really helped him by having him not sign with Pitt.  Everyone attacked Boras and said his client would get more eventually as a FA but right now it looks like going back to school made a lot of finical sense for him.

It worked out, but the flipside i the risk that went into that.  He turned down $3.8M and signed for $6.3M.  He basically needed to go about top 3 or 4 to make more than $3.8M.  It was a risky move.  Especially for a pitcher. Aiken turned down $5M and now some mocks have him in the 20 overall range. I know that is a little different, emotions were involved, trust, etc.

 

While some call it a shrewd move by Boras, the risk is virtually all on the player.  Boras has a diversified portfolio of talented players and is already a millionaire many times over.  A guy like Appel may only get one shot at that bonus.

 

The other thing is the real paydays later, like arbitration and free agency were delayed a year by going back to school (assuming about the same amount of time in the minors).  So if his arm shuts down a year before arbitration or free agency now, that extra $2.5M that Boras got him may turn out to be a bad investment.

Who drafts me?

 

Kiley McDaniel: Way too early to know. I know of a couple teams picking in the top 20 that have already decided to not take an injured pitcher (Matuella, Aiken, Allard, Kirby). Aiken’s situation is so rare, we have to wait for the medicals before we know if it’s pick 10-15 or 40+

 

We’ve seen draft prospects is the past few drafts with TJS not really fall much due to injury; why are Aiken and Matuella projected to go so low in many mock drafts?… wouldnt the risk be the worth the reward even in the middle of the first round?

 

Kiley McDaniel: Matuella hasn’t been healthy for longer than 30 innings at a time and lots of scouting directors haven’t seen him. Aiken may have the trainwreck elbow to end all elbows once we find out if the buzz is accurate or not. I’ve found that fans, particularly semi-informed ones, think their team should take Matuella or Aiken in the top 10-12 picks because rehabbing injuries are automatic (Giolito, Hoffman, etc.) for these guys and these guys are really good. It isn’t that simple and these guys are different than those guys.
