So I was going through ESPN's top 100 MLB players

I would have thought that either Hughes, Dozier or Perkins might have had a shot. However, in looking at the bottom 50, not sure who they would displace, I think I'd rather have any of these guys than Matt Carpenter, but don't see too many other guys. Hopefully that will change in the future. However, the lack of star power is one reason I'm not very bullish on the Twins this season.

The name of that list is somewhat misleading.  It is not quite the "Top 100 players" as in the prospect lists, but the sum of the top 10 players in each position, if that makes sense.   Looked at 2014 Twins' position players and pitchers' rank in fWAR The following are among the top 100:

Dozier 28th, Plouffe 51th, Suzuki 89th
Hughes 5th, Gibson 77th

I guess that Dozier, Hughes and maybe Plouffe might have been omitted.

These lists are a good place to seek balance in a Twinscentric site.  I am trying to find middle ground between national and local ratings and expectations, but this is a tough year to get optimistic.  The improvements in the central makes it hard to see the Twins get above 4th place and that happens only if KC tanks.

Dozier is the only one who I could see making the list, but that is a marginal call.  Otherwise we can only hope that Santana, Arcia, Vargas catch fire and someday hope that the Twins allow more young players to get on the field.

No, it's the top 100 overall. There are only 3 shortstops and 4 second basemen on the whole list, while there are 30 starting pitchers.
