Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 This forum is meant for discussion minor league free agents signed from outside the organization. There is already a forum for minor league signings of players staying in the organization. The Rochester Red Wings announced that the Twins signed infielders Argenis Diaz and Heiker Meneses. Diaz played a few games with the Pirates in 2010 but has been in AAA forever. He's 27. Meneses is just 23 years old. He's been in the Red Sox organization since signing as a 16 year old. He's played (poorly) as high as AAA the last two years. Both of these would appear to be depth.
Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 *crickets* Maybe the non-tender deadline will see a little action and some new faces - seems like there are minor league spots open with the departure of guys lke Guerra and Romero . . .
Steven Buhr Verified Member Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I expect fewer than usual. There's practically an entire roster of guys ready to be moved up from A+ to AA and that's going to push last year's Rock Cats and Red Wings together. I think that could make it a tight competition for spots in Rochester this spring.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Agree with Mr. Buhr.......there are plenty of guys that need to move up. I'd like a pitcher or two, maybe a 3B, but that's about it, I'd guess.* *I gave that about 5 seconds of thought, I reserve the right to amend my comments later

Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Minor league deal for former Major league lefty hurler Wil Ledezma. Last pitched in the majors in 2011, hasn't been in a MLB organization at any level since the Dodgers minors in 2012. had "good numbers" in the Venezuelan winter league this season, has been pitching in Mexico. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=ledezm001wil

If you can't strike batters out with men on base, you shouldn't be in the pen. The team already has better options, I think he's a long shot to get more than some fill-in time at the majors in 2015.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Last week, the Twins signed 25-year-old lefty Luke Westphal from the Joliet Slammers of the independent Frontier League. He had actually pitched as a reliever for Gateway (Frontier League team in St. Louis) where over the last two seasons he worked in 48 games. He had 89 strikeouts, but 50 walks, in 69.2 innings. The lefty spent his winter in Australia this year (it's summer there, of course) pitching for Doncaster, a team the current Twins minor leaguers Lewis Thorpe and Matz Schutte pitched for. In a report after the signing, it showed that in 74 innings pitched, he struck out 136 (16.5 K/9). He is from Clintonville, Wisconsin and went to school at UW-Oshkosh.

Okay....1, What's a born and breed cheese head doing playing in Auzzie land? 2, How'd I completely miss the Matz Schutte signing? 16, Tall (how tall?), from the Netherlands won some awards a couple years ago, pitching in Australia before coming to the States. Baltimore also Interested in him, but lost interested when they realized he hadn't played for the Twins yet.
Eduardo Tait Cedar Rapids Kernels - A+ C On Thursday, the 19-year-old went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Cedar Rapids. That gives him nine homers this season. Explore Eduardo Tait News >
