Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 It wasn't a great debut for Byron Buxton in AA. In his first three at bats, he struck out. However, just now, he was ranging toward right center for a ball and collided with Mike Kvasnicka. Both went down. Trainers and paramedics surrounded Buxton. He appears to be leaving the field in an ambulance. Best Wishes, Byron! See photo following collision here.

JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Wow, praying for him and his family.
maxisagod Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 #$@#%#$&*%#$%!Hope for the best, wish him good health, quick recovery. I just convinced myself this is cliffhanger at the end of chapter 5 of his autobiography:Bucking the Odds: The true story of how Byron Buxton became a multiple MVP winner.
GoGonzoJournal Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 The Twins officially have the worst luck bringing up top prospects. Hope for Byron's sake it's not as serious as it looked.
GoGonzoJournal Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Craziest thing...I changed my status to "May have to move back to Minny if Buxton gets a September call-up." Minutes later Bleacher Report alert tells me he's been carted off the field. I think I better give up on the Twins for their sake.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Hearing: Buxton dove and his head hit Kvasnicka's hip. Buxton was knocked out. Both are heading to the hospital.
Trautmann13 Provisional Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 He must have sold his soul or something. This is getting ridiculous! Best wishes to Byron, not for baseball reasons, but for his personal health and safety
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 here is some interesting info: Dom Amore @AmoreCourantKvasnicka caught the ball, and was also injured. He was able to walk away, but was taken to hospital with Buxton. Sounds like the ball was to the right fielder (who caught it) Not sure whether he yelled for it or not. And Buxton was overzealous and kinda caused this himself...
teekz Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Buxton can't catch a break this year
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Oh man, how bad can it get?

JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino · 33s Just got off the phone with Felton Buxton, Byron's father. Asked if Byron is all right. "I really don't know. Nobody else knows right now." Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino · 5m Felton Buxton said he and other family members were already booked on flights to Hartford on Thursday morning. Still in Georgia tonight. Mike Berardino @MikeBerardino · 4m I asked Felton Buxton if he at least could say that his son Byron was responsive following the collision. He said he wasn't sure. #MNTwins

halfchest Provisional Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 It just doesn't end, wow. Really hope the guy is ok, what a tough year, just shut him down now, it obviously just isn't his year.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Now this is bad luck. Buxton needs to avoid black cats, wow.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I hope he's able to play with his baby boy soon. That will be the best therapy money can't buy.
Tuba Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 If its a concussion I think you shut him down for the rest of the year and start him in High-A next year. Just pretend like this year never happened.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 @AmoreCourant: Mike Kvasnicka, also in the collision, has sore hip. Terry Ryan says Buxton has only concussion, no other injuries. Out at least 7 days. We can breathe again.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Only concussion? That is not a good thing. You do know that is the brain, right? I wonder when this team will get good news on a top prospect.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Hopefully he will not have had any concussion history and these symptoms will clear up quickly, for his sake and his family's, and then more selfishly for Twins fans out there. Maybe once he and Mauer are on the same field, their respective bad medical karma will cancel each other out, and time spent on the DL will be strictly in the past tense.

I wonder when this team will get good news on a top prospect. I don't think he meant it like that, obviously concussions are serious and with span/Mauer/morneau/Koskie you hope we are due for a quick bounce back for once from one. I think he meant "only concussion" in the fact it wasn't a much more serious neck type injury, which not only could instantly end a career, it could effect a man for the rest of his life.

When someone is out cold 10 minutes I think a concussion is the best case scenario.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Ah, that makes sense. I hope the young man recovers, for his sake, not ours.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Oh my goodness. Best wishes to the young man. Maybe it is best for Buxton to call it a season and come into spring training fresh ad healthy.
