Since I think the greater need is in the bullpen, Will Smith is the key to a deal like this.  The Giants could demand a pretty good return if you want to get both.  They won't bite on Sano and Kirilloff is not at peak value right now.

The Twins would have to be willing to part with legit prospects and maybe a couple major league ready players.  I like the idea, but I'd really listen to what it would take just for Smith.  Maybe they'd be happy to get Bumgarner off their hands and would take less to get him if they get a good offer for Smith.

Bumgarner and Smith for Gordon, Javier, Rooker, and Littell

He is a free agent after this season. The Giants don't appear to be going anywhere this season, so if they can pick up a promising player for Mad Bum that might work for them.

Can't give up too much for a rental, but it would be a huge boost to the starting rotation for the rest of this year.

I suspect you'd be looking at one of our top prospects and maybe a lottery ticket or two. Maybe more, but for half a season?

It will be interesting to see if he moves and what the price is.

I wonder if he could be rented for Gordon + a low minors pitcher?

Adding Smith would probably cost a top 3-6 guy as well.

when i think of Bumgarner I cant help but think of his playoff success. I get it that die hard Anal-lyticists dont understand, but with Championship veterans in your Clubhouse, man that's just priceless. I would do whatever it takes to get Bumgarner And Smith and that just might put us over the top for 2019.

MadBum's cost will come with a hefty premium. A lot of teams are looking for a SP. Phillies, Yankees, Braves, Cardinals and maybe the Astros are all candidates. Add Will Smith and you're talking a lot of prospects.

The Giants might get Larnach and Duran at the top of the deal for both pitchers. A high-floor OF and a high risk SP, both with upside. Probably have to include a player or two from the next tier - maybe Celestino and/or Blankenhorn? Their top prospect is a catcher so I don't think they'd ask for Rortvedt or Jeffers.

What do others think about including Javier or Kirilloff instead of Larnach? That might be the price. It's really hard to predict because the final deal will depend on the number of suitors.

I'd like to see who may be on the block 1 month from now - If we can maintain a nice lead over Cle and keep scoring - this years window for a WS run is wide open. Rather than MadBum - lets look for a Houston type manuever when they landed Verlander, and try swinging for the fences. Maybe take on an ace - and take on the last couple years of big money? Scherzer/Grienke type deal. Our 1-9 can hit us all the way to the promise land - but we are an ace and a closer away from being able to pitch that far this year - maybe 2 closers?
My thoughts are to be willing to trade any prospects away that we don't think help us in the next 2 years as we go for back to back championships in '19/'20. Lewis and Graterol are the only untouchables for me.

You wouldn't trade Royce Lewis for Max Scherzer?? We're talking about a future hall of fame pitcher, one of the best starting pitchers in the game controlled for what, 3.5 years? I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Prospects are prospects. Big contract, and I don't think Washington would do that anyway, but I absolutely would.

Ok - got me. I'd make that trade. You never know - Nationals fall off the deep end and start ditching contracts and wanting young talent? I just see Lewis in the starting 9 for our 2020 run. (although he is off to a rough start this year) Doubt we resign Schoop with all the young middle infielders we are stocking up on, & his price tag given what looks like a major comeback year will be large.

Bumgarner is nowhere close to the same ace level pitcher he was from 2011-16. He is also a free agent at the end of the year. Somebody is going to overpay for the name, I hope it isn't the Twins.

There is no way the Twins take on Max Scherzer's contract. I mean things have changed for the Twins leadership, but they haven't changed that much.
