Welcome aboard Markos. Don't know if I would be credited for driving his bandwagon, but I have been at the wheel for a few laps around the track...after all he is a Verona, WI kid. I have been saying for well over a year that I believe there is a real chance this kid could be the Twins catcher for much of the next decade. With Garver improving as much as he has, Rortvedt has time to continue his development before breaking in sometime in 2021. He can begin as Garver's backup, then replace him when Garver becomes too expensive for the Twins. Who knows, maybe the Giants will give the Twins a future ACE, another minor league prospect and a future shutdown closer as a throw-in.

Are you saying, Seth, that what you saw isn't a future ACE like his early numbers hint at?

Article: Week in Review: Homer Happy
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'll also be happy, Nick, with three wins this week. Did I hear correctly on the radio yesterday that Kirilloff is expected back sometime this week?- 15 replies

Was I correct hearing on the radio yesterday that Kirilloff is expected back playing in games this week? And Sano at Fort Myers on Tuesday? How much of Smeltzer have you seen in person, Seth? Can this kid be as good as his numbers indicate? Great seeing Miranda playing better of late. Really need some of the bats to catch up with the pitchers early this year. Looking forward to tomorrow to see if Thorpe backs up his last two starts. Also, always looking forward to seeing how Jax does.

Great seeing Lewis have a multi-hit game. Now let's see him go on a nice 8-10 game hitting streak to get his season going. Was a bit surprised we didn't see Kirilloff play for the Miracle last night on his bobblehead night. Must not be that close to being ready to get back out there. Agree with JLease above that they need to figure out a way to get more playing time for both Rortvedt and Jeffers, although I do see that both have played several games as DH. But the year is early, still lots of time to split them so they each can play two-thirds of the games behind the plate. Excited to see how Smeltzer does today! A few more starts like his first starts and he could force himself up to Rochester.

About a month before the season began, I predicted the Twins would hit between 225 and 240 home runs. That's beginning to look conservative. Unfortunately, we will be done with the O's after today. I guess roster logjams have a way of working themselves out. Astudillo to the IL for 10 days or two weeks. Then he will go to Rochester for a week of rehab before being ready to come back. Did Cave have time down there to even play in a game? The big question is what happens when Sano is ready in three weeks? Gotta believe they do something about the duplication of Gonzales and Adrianza. Maybe they can package one of them with a good prospect for a relief pitcher.

Double ouch at AAA and AA. Alcala needs to get back on track or the Pressley trade is gonna be a clunker. Looks like it is going to be a fun summer whenever Ober and Balazovic are starting. Does anyone have a crystal ball that will tell us if one of these guys develops into that true ACE the Twins really need? See that Helman had a 7 game hitting streak that was broken a couple games ago. Good seeing him starting to get on track as he has hit everywhere he has been.

Not a lot to get excited about from last night's action. The one player who seems to be playing better of late is Larnach. He has a .325 average in his last ten games which brought his average up to .270. A bit surprising he has zero home runs, but he does play in a league with big ballparks. Hopefully, Balazovic will be as good tonight as Enlow was disappointing last night. Always look forward to days when he, Alcala and Ober are on the hill. Will tonight be the night we see Kirilloff in action with the Miracle? Or maybe tomorrow?

As I was reading the comments for the third time today, was thinking about strikeouts and Lewis Thorpe. Took a look and saw that his 33 K's are second in the IL, one behind the leader who has pitched 2.1 innings less than Thorpe. Who was the last Red Wing to lead the IL in strikeouts? Was it Liriano however many years ago? Decided to go back and look and saw that Liriano didn't lead the league, although he probably was in the lead when called up. Taylor Rogers was second and Alex Meyers tied for the league lead several years ago. Hopefully, Thorpe can keep this up and be a real asset for the Twins late this year and beyond.

Forgot that the Kernels use a six man rotation. Great hearing that Kirilloff is playing in EST. That means he has to be close to being back on the field for games. Best news I have heard all day.

Not being critical, however, curious about your decision to have Moran as the pitcher of the day rather than Jax? See that Sano is now playing baseball in EST games. Does anyone know if Kirilloff is also playing in EST? Looking at today's starters, have the feeling Enlow hasn't pitched in awhile. Did he miss a start? Or has C.R. had some cancellations?

Article: Wahoos Weigh-In (4/23): Rotation Domination
rdehring replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Loved this article about the Blue Wahoos, Steve, especially the link to the local article about Jax, who I see as a diamond in the ruff. With so few innings professionally, he just might end up being a special Twin. I see him as becoming someone similar to Scott Baker. Am I correct that Graterol pitched around 100 innings last year? Do you think it is possible the Twins will keep him in the rotation until he has 90-100 innings, then move him to the pen to limit his innings and give him the chance to come up and help the Twins as a reliever in August/September/October.- 6 replies

Now that is the Lewis Thorpe we have been waiting to see this spring. 24 K's and only 1 walk in his last two starts, 13+ innings, gets me excited at the possibility we will see him at Target Field before the summer is over. Great seeing that Smeltzer has a hard head and was back in his regular spot in the rotation. Appears he is a strikeout machine who is making the Dozier trade look real good. Speaking of strikeouts, Hackimer has 19 strikeouts in 10.0 innings with 3 walks and only 1 hit. We have seen guys come thru the system with great numbers before, yet never do if for the Twins. See that he spent all of last year and some of 2017 in the Florida State League. Time to get him moving up the ladder as he will be Rule 5 eligible this winter. Question for you guys that have seen him pitch, is he one relief prospect who has what it takes to make it and be good, really good?

Really liked what the FO did last July, picking up many very good prospects. The one trade that bothered me a bit was the Pressley deal. There is a chance Alcala could be special and this deal may look good for the Twins in the long run. But today, Pressley would take away a lot of the question marks from our pen.

Depending on who starts tonight for Rochester, Thorpe, Stewart and Littell all would have at least four days rest if held out for a Twins start tomorrow.

That is one heck of a trio starting for the Miracle. Great seeing Graterol come back with a clearn 5th inning after running into trouble in the 4th. Always good seeing Arraez have another two fer. The Twins are going to need to either go with a bullpen game or bring up a starter for tomorrow. Have you heard anything about which, Seth? Could see them bring up someone to start the game, then send him back on Thursday and replace him with Magill...who seems about ready. Only question is who goes down? Also good seeing Rortvedt both hit for a solid average while picking up more extra base hits for a better OPS.

Article: MIN 9, HOU 5: Bats Thrive, Pitching Survives
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Coming into this series, I would have been elated if the Twins could get one win. OK, they got it. Hopefully, they will get a second win and take the series. This team just might be for real, let's get on board for an exciting summer of baseball. -
Was yesterday the first time ever you wrote Tyle Jay in as the Pitcher of the Day? More than a disappointment since being drafted, is it possible he could be a 'late' bloomer and turn it around this year? I think you missed Alcala in the Prospect Summary?

The Twins really need to see Gonasalves, Gordon and Javier get onto the field. At the end of this year, there are going to be lots of decisions that they will need to make. Do they try to bring Schoop back? The type of year Gordon has will be part of that decision. There are lots of holes in their starting rotation next year. Before bringing any of the current guys back, would be nice to know if Gonsalves is a potential replacement. And finally, Javier needs to be added to the 40-man this November as he was signed on July 2, 2015. I assume he will be, but he is now in his 5th year in the organization and has played in only 50 games with most two years ago at Elizabethton. Hopefully, all will be in these reports beginning this coming week!

Wasn't he battling a few injuries in spring training? Could be he isn't 100%. Also understand he isn't getting a lot of pitches to hit as his walk rate is high. Then could be his first slump as a pro, something he will need to work-thru and learn from.

I really, really wanted the Blue Wahoos to win their second game for a five game sweep. Zach Littell's first start was bad, the second so-so and last night very good. Hopefully, he is now on track for more. After Weil had a break-out year last year, he has quietly been one of the Red Wings best hitters this spring. Expect will see a lot more games from him like last night, but will he make it to the Twins? Griffin Jax is in his fourth year in the organization, yet after last night has pitched only 144.0 innings. Last night's earned run was his first of the year in 16.0 innings. Guess that confirms it wasn't a mistake to push this kid up to AA. Will he keep it up and make it to the Twins next year? Then there is Ober and Sands. Gotta love all these dominant pitchers the Twins have throughout the organization.

My thoughts also, spycake. I recall Magill being a pleasant surprise last year, pitching better than most of us expected. If he can get back to that, deserves a spot in this bullpen. Question is who goes down as I doubt they will want to cut to 12 position players with Sano scheduled to return early/mid next month. The bottom three in the pen are Duffey, Harper and Mejia. Of those, I would think Mejia has been the biggest problem. But he is the only lefty available other than Rogers and doesn't have options remaining. So that means Harper or Duffey. Duffey has pitched better this time up, other than one pitch yesterday. And Harper has been a real surprise. Gonna be interesting decision, but this bullpen must get better. And yes, for whatever reason I have been thinking that Magill's name was McGill.....DAH!

Disappointing how Stewart has been throwing this spring. After the progress he made last September, was hoping that he would step up and claim the right to be the first starter called up when needed. Games like yesterday certainly aren't good. McGill is on a 20-day rehab assignment, right? Or is it 30-days for pitchers? Assume he will join the Twins when ready as there are a couple guys at the end of the pen who have been struggling. Doubt he has options if they would prefer he stay in Rochester, or does he? Looks like Balazovic is confirming that surprising report from Keith Law (it was him, wasn't it?). Love it when we have starters step up and make us all take notice! Now will one of them please hurry to the Twins and be lights out so we can really feel good?

Great seeing Thrope have an outing like yesterday. With that many K's, gotta believe his stuff is better than a lot of us claim. Now, do the same next time out. Also good seeing Raley do well. Playing himself into a spot as the next player up should the Twins need another outfielder during the season. Really hope that Smeltzer is able to get back on the hill soon. Does anyone know what injury he has, if any? Was he hit in the face or head? Will always remember when Herb Score took a line drive to his face. Was one of the best pitchers in the game and seemed to never be the same. Another two hit game for Arraez and his average goes down. See he has only 6 K's in about 50 at bats with 6 walks. Looking forward to seeing how Jax and Balazovic do tonight.
