  1. Don't know how many they are going to hit. Even if it is around 300, will it be a new record?
  2. With all the injuries the Twins are battling, expect that Astudillo will be in Detroit on Sunday, rather than wait for the Wings season to end. Considering Alcala needs to be added to the 40-man this fall, seems logical he will get on the same flight to Boston with Thorpe, Smeltzer, Littell and others Monday evening. Great game from Balazovic, but I would have given the daily award to Canterino who allowed only one base runner compared with three for Balazovic. Granted, Balazovic had two more strikeouts, but Canterino's 7 K's in 5.0 innings is also a lot of trips back to the bench. Its a shame the GCL Twins won't have the chance to make the playoffs on the field. Were the playoffs also cancelled?
  3. Sure was nice seeing some of those Bombas come with runners on base. Looks like the bullpen is shaping up to be a strength for the remainder of this year and next. Now if the starters can get close to what they were at the start of the year, the next couple months could be fun.
  4. It appears Bailey Ober will finish the season with the best results of any pitcher in the organization. Where do you think, Seth, that will put him in year-end prospect rankings? Will he be Top 10? Top 15? Where will he rank among pitchers, Top 5? Great seeing Raley and Rooker back on the field playing ball. Unfortunately, too late to be any help for the Twins this year. See that Astudillo was at first base last night, seems like he is almost ready for his Sept 1 or 2 return to the Twins. Looks like the GCL Twins no longer have the best winning percentage among non-division leaders. They have the most wins, but the Tigers West have played 3 fewer games giving them a better winning percentage. With only a few games remaining, they just need to keep winning.
  5. With yesterday's loss, the ETon Twins are 1.5 games out of second place and a playoff spot. Unfortunately, there are two teams tied in second and only a week remaining in the season. Fortunately, they play the last place team to begin this week. If Biloxi wins the second half (also won first half), does Pensacola make the playoffs with the second best overall record? Or will the second half second place team (Jacksonville) move on to the playoffs?
  6. Are the ETon Twins going to miss the playoffs this year, Seth? Currently 1.0 game out of second place, but must pass two teams to slide into that second spot. Don't know the details, but know that they have been in the playoffs most years for seemingly forever. And yesterday's loss sure didn't help the GCL Twins chances of making it. I have this feeling that a lot of you are going to be more than disappointed when Graterol isn't called up by the Twins next week. Seems to me that he is going to be a bit short of performances at AAA for them to make the call. But that's just my feeling this morning. And isn't it great seeing Bechtold's name mentioned in these reports nearly every day.
  7. Eight months would get him into EST some time in May and available for the start of the Appy League season in late June. That may be optimistic, but a pitcher he is not.
  8. Following yesterday's disappointing loss, the GCL Twins have a half game lead for the GCL wild card. With one week remaining on their schedule one could say they are down to crunch time. Didn't know what your 'fielding' comment meant following Kirilloff's name in the summary, Tom. Checked and saw it was his 6th error of the year. Also saw he was playing first base. Made me think about his future. Doubt he will be ready to be the Twins fourth outfielder, alternate first baseman and back up DH next March. Or could he? Also did a check to confirm that Lewis turned 20 years old a couple months ago. With that in mind, he is doing awfully well at AA. Wouldn't we all love to see more pitching lines like Duran's last night. It really is worth making that click and going to the box score to look at. But he wasn't alone as both Dobnak and Enlow had very nice starts. Sure seems there is a lot of real good starting pitching in the organization. Sure would be nice if some of it found its way to the Twins....and soon.
  9. No. And I don't know what they make, PDX. But would hope that the top two make more than the MLB minimum, which would be considered big bucks to most of us.
  10. Great seeing Raley back on the field, Ted. Don't know what his future holds for the Twins, but he certainly looked like a player who belongs in the big leagues earlier this year. Disappointing start for Escobar, really his first real clunker as a pro. See that Kirilloff has gotten hits in 9 of his last 10 games with multi-hit games in five of them. With a .400 average over that span, certainly seems to be back to the player he was a year ago. No question that his lower numbers for the year were the result of the injury that didn't want to go away for much of the season. Biggest question is when does he arrive in Minnesota and in what role? Something for the guys making the big bucks to ponder over the winter. Celestino certainly seems like a very good player. May take awhile but the Twins could end up with a reasonable return from Houston for Pressley, especially if Alcala develops into a solid reliever.
  11. Expect Astudillo is on track for a September 1 return to the Twins. Good seeing him catching rather than at DH. And what a nice first outing for Graterol. Any word on his velocity? Also saw Stashak had an even better appearance, pitching 1.2 innings with 3 K's and no baserunners. When I saw the Pensacola box score, just shook my head when I got to the starting pitcher. Is it possible Ober's success could play at Target Field late next year? Also really good seeing Wallner move up to the Kernels.
  12. After a couple so-so starts after his move to AAA, great seeing Jax have a good start, very good. Continue to believe that he has a future with the Twins. He seems to be pitching like he believes he has one also. Go Air Force! And what a big day for the GCL Twins. With their season nearing its end, they are 2.5 games behind the Orioles in their division, however, have a 1.5 game lead in the wild card race. If the season ended today, they would begin the playoffs against those colorful birds. I see that Moya has not allowed a run in four of his last five appearances. Two runs in 12.1 innings is a pretty good stretch. Could he be the Twins answer to add a lefty to their pen come September?
  13. Cruz will be first one back and only move they can make is to send down pitcher #13. Then when Buxton is ready, assuming it is before 9/1, Cave goes down. Astudillo will be back on September 1, along with an assortment of pitchers.
  14. Shaping up to be a very nice season for Bechtold. With his defense, has to be someone worth keeping an eye on. Same goes for Dobnak, although he is close enough to be in next year's plans...isn't he?
  15. Yes, La Tortuga won't be called up before September 1, unless there is an injury to a catcher. Ober moves up a level and nothing changes. Is he this good? When talking about the Kernels rotation for the playoffs, forgot that Canterino was added to their group of starters. He and a hot Javier sure could help this year's run towards a championship.
  16. Isn't Duffey settling into his role nicely? Has been great coming out of the pen with men on base and keeping there on most days.
  17. I am guessing Thorpe as well. Could be Stewart, but that 3.0 inning outing by Thorpe the other day seemed to set him up for a recall. What is going to be interesting is how many September call ups they make this year. Wade, Astudillo, Stashak, Stewart, Dobnak, Poppen, Smeltzer, and whomever gets sent down when they activate Cruz. That's at least seven. Rijo is looking like a real nice pickup.
  18. The GCL Twins are quietly putting together a very nice season, now 10 games over .500 at 25-15. Although 1.5 games behind the Orioles (their division), they are the leaders for the one wild card spot. With a bit over two weeks remaining in their season, they need to stay hot. Will we be seeing Astudillo and Wade begin their rehabs later this week? Got to believe you were right, Steve, and the Twins plans were the reason Thorpe threw only 3.0 innings. Will he be the second lefty in the Twins pen as we move into September? Think I need to start paying closer attention to Laweryson. Get to know him a bit better.
  19. What an ugly QUALITY start for Perez. But the results were great. Dyson had to give his confidence a shot in the arm. Also built some confidence for the team in using him. Isn't Gonzalez turning out to be a key part of this team. Wonderful late off-season signing.
  20. Yes, Yes, and Yes. Unfortunately, he will probably end up in the top 3, but not the winner. Biggest thing going against him is that as far as baseball is concerned he came out of nowhere. Also will be hurt a bit by less plate appearances than some of the others.
  21. I knew they were good. This was the best team Excelsior had in nearly 20 years since they last went to the Series in 2001. The Excelsior GM has been a friend for over 20 years. He is the guy who had all the great Twins contacts back when Mr. Ryan was running things. My son played for them from 1998-2000. Unbelievable program who travels America and beyond. Don't know what their annual budget is today, but was around $100k back when. Their biggest fund raiser was delivering US West phone books and yellow pages. Delivered to most of the homes West of Lake Calhoun, South of I-394/Hwy 12, and north of Highway 5. If you lived there, we delivered your directories. Each player/family had to deliver books to about 5,000 homes each JAN/FEB.
  22. Must say I really liked Dobnak the other night. Seems like a bulldog who could have a future. Will agree probably won't be this year. Glad a few mentioned Hildenberger. Assuming he is now healthy and he can make a couple minor adjustments over the next ten days, he is the best candidate to step up and make a difference. Everyone else is trying to find the best #7 or #8 guy in the pen. HIldenberger could be someone who slides in with the big three in a set-up role. Still would like to see another lefty out there. Don't know who that will be, but there are some options, albeit not great ones. By that I do not mean that I don't like Smeltzer or Thorpe, just that they haven't been relievers and it may be difficult to get the most out of them switching to the pen.
  23. Can I ask for a moment of silence today? Excelsior Legion came thru the winners bracket of the Central Plains American Legion Regional, only to drop two Sunday to Fargo. Excelsior finished their season with a 56-4 record, missing another trip to the World Series.
  24. Will be very interesting to see if the Twins are as aggressive with Wallner's promotions as they were with Rooker.
