  1. I'd like to comment about references on this post and others about beating up on two bad teams, KC and Detroit. My point is that KC and Detroit are no longer bad teams. They aren't yet contenders, but they are better than the last few years, both with some young pitchers who are promising and capable of keeping them in a game against anyone. So playing roughly .500 against both isn't a major red mark, IMO.
  2. Curious about your thoughts regarding the catchers, Nick. Assuming that Garver and Avila are both healthy before the end of the season, who are the Twins two catchers on their playoff roster? Is it Garver and Avila? Or will it be Garver and Jeffers? I would go with the two young guys but they both are right handed hitters and will Roco go with the experience?
  3. Anybody but the Yankees. No way I want to start with them. Best position might be to be second in the Central and open at home against Buffalo.
  4. Huge win last night, Huge. Win or lose today, we have put a little distance between us and the Tribe. But wouldn't it be so nice to sweep? Really crappy that Rooker's season ended last night. Even though he spent most of his summer over in St. Paul, he made enough of an impression to be counted on going forward. Assume we will see them activate Kepler to take Rooker's spot on the roster. With Rooker injured, can they now add another player to the 60-man roster and bring him to St. Paul? Maybe another catcher named Rortvedt?
  5. How many of us have said, "The Twins are a much better team when Buxton is playing?" I know I have on several occasions. And last night he was huge, again. Didn't think Jeffers was ready for the big leagues when he arrived. Kid is getting invaluable experience and is starting to look like he belongs. Will be interesting to see who the starting catcher is next year? Only problem is that Garver and Jeffers are both right handed hitters. Like many of us I was disappointed to see Graterol traded to the Dodgers. Still would like to see him in a Twins bullpen, but that trade sure as heck is working out great for the Twins. All of you searching for a Twins ACE, may not need to keep looking. Maeda, Berrios and Pineda are looking great for a 3-game series. Should be interesting battle between Odorizzi, Hill and Dobnak for the 4th spot in the rotation should the Twins get past round one.
  6. Brady Singer was drafted this year? Didn't realize that. Was really impressed when he threw against the Twins and then the near no-no last night. Wow!
  7. Beat Bieber tonight and take 2 of 3 versus the Tribe. Then beat Giolito and take 3 of 4 versus the Sox. Follow that stretch by beating up on teams lower in the standings the last 8 games of the season to take the Central Crown. That will enable the Twins to be the BIG DAWGS entering the first round of playoffs at Target Field. Sure seemed like that Singer guy we struggled with is for real after mowing down the Tribe last night, eh? Go Twins!
  8. Thanks, Nick, enjoyed the article and agree with almost everything you have written. I suspect many of you younger guys and gals still have a life and are out and about while being careful. But for us old farts, we had really nothing as we are locked in our homes/jail cells. Having nightly baseball has been a god send, at least for me. Unfortunately, it will end too soon and hockey won't get going until I don't know when. And like you, I am more than thankful for baseball's return. As for all the changes, I can live with them. And yes, even that bloody runner on second rule in extra innings. Actually, I would like to see a few more double headers in the future and could live with the 7-inning rule. As for the 3 batter rule, that's here to stay and it is growing on me. As for player health, I am pleasantly surprised how most teams have gotten thru the season with zero cases. Congrats to those organizations for both having a good plan in place and the courage of all involved to live with it. Now can the Twins extend this season all the way to the end of October? And is it true, Nick, that Mr. Bonnes ordered a mature crow from Omaha Steaks to be delivered to your home for your dinner this evening?
  9. I'm not paid to make this decision, thankfully.
  10. Although this article is about the farm system, Cody, you only talk about the draft and players acquired via trades. Considering that four of their starting 9 position players are International Free Agents, that source if not most important is certainly as important as the draft. Where would this team be had their International scouts taken a vacation one July back in what was it, 2009, when they signed Sano, Polanco and Kepler? Although others were International players acquired in trades, I am guessing nearly half of this team were originally signed that way.
  11. Took a look at the link, thanks. What I found most interesting was how well Arraez does. Kid is just flat out amazing. Hopefully, his knee will be better come playoff time. Unfortunately, got a feeling fixing it may have to wait until winter.
  12. Thanks, Matt. Hopefully next spring, summer, September and October will be somewhat back to normal.
  13. The bad news is that while we have two off days, the Indians play two and the Sox play one. So we could be back to 1.5 games out when the Tribe comes to town on Friday...or not.
  14. What a great day for Rooker to get his first bomba, seeing he grew up a Cardinal fan. Not worried about Dobnak as the movement of his pitches that caused his problem yesterday is also the movement that makes him effective. Gotta expect one or two crappy starts every season.
  15. With Dobnak and Berrios pitching today, expect one (Berrios) will come back to start Sunday against Cleveland on normal rest. That would mean Pineda could start Saturday on normal rest with Maeda pitching the opener Friday with an extra day of rest. Sets up nicely for what will be a huge series for the Twins effort to win the division. Will be interesting to see if Rocco skips Hill to have what may be his three best starters versus the Indians. I know many of us thought Dobnak could/should have gone another inning last time out. Do you think, Tom, that Rocco had this game in mind when he pulled him from a short start?
  16. Certainly appears that at least a couple of the competition has superior young prospects/newbies than you listed for the Twins. That's in part due to the less than stellar summers from Smeltzer and Thorpe vs. the young arms they are compared with. Now Balazovic, Duran, Canterino and others down on the farm could move the Twins up that analysis...should a couple of that group approach their ceilings.
  17. Great read, Seth, thanks. Not certain where I would rank the Twins prospects/newbies if ranking these teams 1-5. What are your thoughts? Certainly some great young arms for each of those teams.
  18. You may be right, Nick. But unless you or some of your partners at TD have had conversations with someone in the FO you don't know what their plans are for his future. It appears that he is part of the heart and soul of this team, at least to someone like me on the outside looking in. As for having multiple prospects ready to replace him, do we? I like Kirilloff, Larnach and Rooker as well as any of you. But until they have shown they can be as productive at least at AAA (yes, Rooker was), the team may want to continue with Eddie. Yes, if he isn't signed to something longer than next year come winter you will probably be proven correct. But Rocco keeps putting him somewhere in the middle of his lineup, so I'm not so certain the guys running the team believe he is clearly on his way out.
  19. I must take exception, Andrew, to your comment..."Eddie Rosario made a stupid base running mistake that likely cost the Twins runs early in the game." And to be honest, I am surprised that a writer at Twins Daily would make such a comment. Yes, like most of us I cringed when Eddie was caught short of third getting into a run down for a second straight day. But then I listened to Justin Morneau explaining how the situation developed. Rosario was slowing as he approached second, at which time he saw Diaz waiving the runner ahead of him home. With the throw likely going home, it made sense to get to third with only one out. Yes, the outfielder threw to third and Rosie was caught in the run down. But Justin certainly didn't seem to think it was a bad decision. When the camera showed Rosario getting to the dugout his teammates also didn't seem to appear to think it was stupid as they patted him on the back and gave him high 5's.
  20. I got a real good smile out of your above comment about not wanting your grandkids to play like Eddie. Well, my grandkid is a gal, so it isn't apples to apples. But if she were a guy and played like Eddie, I would love it should he like Eddie became a regular starter on a big league team.
  21. Want to comment on something several have referred to about Eddie. That is that he plays for himself, in caps. Except when he is beat up or worn down, Eddie usually plays at one speed, 110 mph. Lots of good stuff happens when he does that, and some bad. But this is who he is. Personally, I love the guy. And yes, like most of you I cringe when he makes one of his usually mental mistakes...or two. But I truly believe that Eddie is not thinking of what is best for him when he does make those mistakes. More likely, he is playing his game on full speed auto pilot and isn't thinking at all.
  22. But he is the 4th string catcher. Unfortunately, he has to play some when the first two are hurt. He seemed to be more adequate last year. Wondering if he didn't get a lot of time behind the plate while in St. Paul.
  23. Isn't there serious discussion that the playoffs will be in a bubble. Have seen several references to Southern Cal, although they should be able to get better locations with less COVID...although the weather is always a plus in So Cal in October.
  24. Ugly, just plain ugly. Did Trevor May have the best and worst games of his entire career this weekend? I will only blame Eddie for running thru the stop sign. Yes, that may have led to a big inning, or not. The ball off the end of his glove was a great attempt that didn't happen. And that weird ground rule is just plain stupid. No way should a ball that hits off something not in the field of play be in play. Hopefully, that rule will be changed asap. Unfortunately, the entire bullpen seemed to wear out in the same game. Gotta wonder if all these bullpen games is starting to take its toll. And while speaking of the bullpen, am wondering what Smeltzer's role is with this team going forward? If any? Expect he will be the next man assigned to St. Paul when the next pitcher is ready....Odorizzi on Tuesday maybe? Can't tell you how happy I am that Balazovic, Canterino and Barnes have been added to the St. Paul group. Should the Twins be so fortunate to play well into October, this trio should get a month and a half work in what is otherwise a wasted summer. Now lets get Rortvedt to CHS Field also.
  25. Should we be so fortunate as to win the division, we may look back at the second game Friday together with yesterday's game as the point in the season where it happened. These two wins are just plain HUGE!
