  1. Do the Twins have a true ACE, no. Who is their #1 starter, good question. Strong argument can be made for any one of five starters you talk about above. And that doesn't include Pineda who may prove by year's end to be the best of all. No true ACE, but five or six guys battling for the #1 spot. That could be a great situation going into the playoffs.
  2. He was the other one I was thinking could be next. But have a feeling it is going to be Thorpe.
  3. What a fun game last night. Wisler is proving to be another excellent pick up. Certainly doing better than I expected. Looking at the bullpen spreadsheet, looks like Thorpe will be the first to head over to St. Paul when Hill is ready tomorrow.
  4. Thanks for the update, Nick. Winning two of three is always good and should lead to a division championship. Although Cleveland doesn't want to go away even with two starters demoted. Find your mention of the 40-man roster interesting. Had looked at it earlier this morning to see who was likely to be removed when Pineda returns in two weeks. There really isn't an easy choice. Man things have changed from a few years ago.
  5. Was great seeing Littell back yesterday after his ugly outing before going on the IL. It is important for him to return to the pitcher he was in 2019 to lengthen the Twins pen for their playoff run.
  6. Will join the chorus above commenting about Berrios having a disappointing start to this very short season. As for he and others not performing as expected, just don't know how much this screwed up start to spring/summer camp and the season is having. Right now the starters are Berrios-Dobnak-Maeda-Odorizzi and X. Sounds like Hill will join that group this coming week, replacing Mr. X. With the lack of many off days, I fully expect the Twins to go to a six man starting rotation once Bailey and/or Pineda are available. Should the Twins be fortunate to make the playoffs, will be interesting to see who their four starters will be. As of today, it would be questionable if Berrios were included...although October is still six weeks away. On a positive note, thought Alcala looked very good again yesterday. Have to be excited about what he could become for the the Twins bullpen for a long time.
  7. Looks like Sean Poppen got added for today's 14 innings. Heck, if they were both nine inning games I would consider driving downtown and buying a ticket. Will one of today's games go extra innings so we get to see the other change to the rules?
  8. I have been a bit disappointed in Buxton this season. Haven't seen him hit any ground balls to the outfield that he stretches to doubles. Haven't seen any triples, or scoring from first on a play where 99% of all big leaguers would be standing at third. Yeh, the home runs are nice, but I want to see him run!
  9. If I am correct, neither Kirilloff or Larnach needs to be added to the 40-man roster this fall. I believe Rooker does to not be exposed to the Rule 5 draft. For that reason, If a need should develop I could see Rooker being called up with the other two very unlikely. Especially considering they would be playing for only the short time remaining in this season. If either Kirilloff or Larnach were playing every day at Rochester and hitting the cover off the ball, it might be different. But both are going thru the motion of simulated baseball in St. Paul.
  10. Great article. Thanks, Matt. As adjacent has stated above, I also believe the only players that can be traded must be on the 60-man roster. So unless the Twins want to part with one of their top four prospects that are on that roster, they don't have a lot to trade. For that reason, I expect them to be relatively quiet. Heck the best moves they can make may be to go out and get a couple really good starting pitchers, say Rich Hill and Michael Pineda.
  11. Interesting. Will likely depend on whether or not they have four starters pitching very well at the time. If not, they will want to take a shot at having Pineda ready for one of four spots in the post season...assuming we make the postseason.
  12. Another excellent start by Maeda. Question, was he running out of gas or were they getting to him the third time thru the order? A bit surprised at seeing Thorpe come in and pleasantly surprised by a solid performance, albeit one in which the Brewers may have lost all interest in the game. Agree with above that Thorpe will likely be moving to St. Paul as they begin activating players later this week. Twins really need to win this series with KC after being embarrassed down there last week.
  13. Very interesting, Cooper. I always like to read good stuff about Dobnak because, well, most of what we have heard the past couple years has been good, very good. I don't understand how WAR is calculated. But when I compare all the traditional stats between Dobnak and Sheffield there is no comparison. Yes, Sheffield has more strike outs but Dobber destroys him in the ERA, Walk and WHIP categories. Yet, their WAR is within a tenth of a point of each other. That raises a big question in my mind of the value of WAR, especially when considering the the role of a pitcher is to keep runners off base (WHIP) and from scoring (ERA).
  14. Thanks, Nick. Always a big fan of Hendriks. Agree there was no way the Twins could have hung on to him considering the rules for options, etc. Would be nice to have Anderson in their current pen.
  15. Looks like all of the really bad strikes were when the Twins were at bat. And the three on Kepler weren't even close. That was the inning the Twins just might have made hay and the damn ump took it away from us. Will agree however, that using Rogers in back-to-back games should be a no-no. Especially after pitching 20+ pitches the first night. Also, correct me if I am not remembering right, but wasn't one of the guys on base for the last two 2-run homers struck out before getting on base...by a missed strike by the ump.
  16. Last night was another example of why Eddie Rosario is so very important to this team. Yes, he came up again with another chance with lots of runners on base. But damn, he got it done again in big style. He really needs to remain part of this team until their opportunity to win is over. And speaking of his so-called misplay, my old eyes told me it would have been a hell of a play to get that one. But I got a feeling Eddie thought he should have had it and that may have been in the back of his mind when he stepped into the box with ducks on the pond.
  17. No bighat. Let's take all three.
  18. Expect Clippard to go 2 innings with Smeltzer following for the next 3. Next expect to see some combination of the guys who didn't pitch last night beginning with Stashak. Don't have a clue if we will see Thorpe tonight or again this summer. Huge fan of his, but this messed up summer hasn't been his best.
  19. Hill concerns me the most as he has the potential to make a real difference come the playoffs...assuming they exist and we make them. We are what, three weeks away from Pineda being eligible to return. Does anyone know what he is doing right now? I assume he is at St. Paul and throwing, but have no idea if that is in fact true.
  20. Thanks for posting the round table, Ted.
  21. Also wondering how things have changed since the Saints are back in town. Is there a third locker room that the Twins can use or do they have to pack up every day and take their stuff with them? Will second the wish for minor league ball to return ASAP. Unfortunately, that ain't gonna happen until April 2021 at the earliest.
  22. As you mentioned, Cody, we will know in a few more years. Although this trade could pay dividends for the Twins for another six to ten years, so may be a bit longer. So far, I am satisfied with the trade and happy with the general philosophy of the new FO.
  23. Question, is it possible Rogers hasn't been getting enough work and isn't as sharp as he could be? Curious if anyone who knows more about pitching has an opinion.
  24. Yes, I like that idea. Let's pile on with a big score today. Time for the bats to wake up and put up double digit runs.
  25. The only prospects I see having a chance of playing this year are those who would be Rule 5 eligible come November. If they aren't, they aren't going to be activated this year. Considering Balazovic isn't with the group in St. Paul, it is highly unlikely we will see him.
