    Is it possible no one wanted him, if he was offered? Thanks for the report, Steve. After making the playoffs seemingly every year, shocking seeing the Kernels in last place. Interesting item for me while looking at the box scores was that Diaw not only had a home run and is hitting .290 something, but he also was behind the plate again. A young man who can hit very well, has the athleticism to play the outfield and can catch seems like someone who belongs with the Twins a year or so from now. Great seeing Culpepper with a big night after shaking off some of the rust.

    In response to your headline, Cody, my answer is no he isn't underrated. That's because I have him #1 in the organization. Have Lackey and Jenkins next as 2A and 2B. Why? A shortstop who is a fantastic defender with speed and a good bat will be the most valuable player on the team, any team. At least in my opinion. I haven't seen him play, so my assumption that his defense is at another level is based on reading what others have said since the day he was drafted. The biggest surprise I have had over the year he has been in the organization is I didn't have a clue he had the speed/instincts to steal 40 bases in two-thirds of a season.

    Yes. And at my age if that means I never again see major league baseball, my answer is still yes.

    Yes, they could have gone after bigger names which I see would make many of you happy. But what would it have taken to do that? Did we want to see them trade Houston? EmRod? K. Culpepper? Mendez? Or even Jenkins? I don't see that as being a smart move and am happy they didn't trade any of those top prospects. Granted, they traded Hill who is an exciting young prospect. But they got back a very good reliever who will be here for another year. What may be most important is they replaced nearly a quarter of their pitching staff over the past few weeks. I don't know who is leaving when adding Hoffman to the roster, but there no longer are two or three arms in the bullpen who no one wants to see in a game.

    Personally would hope that Houston is "untouchable." Young shortstops who are excellent in the field, hit well with speed don't come along that often. If you have one, keep him.

    Was comparing his time in Wichita to his entire time in Cedar Rapids, not just June. Your point is interesting, seeing how he got better as his season has progressed.

    So happy to see Hill with an excellent start. Maybe was a good thing that the storms came and he got out while doing great. Checked the box score and saw that 80% of his pitches were strikes. Had a good smile when checking the Mussels' box score and saw that Lackey stole another base. Going to take some getting used to a catcher with speed. Especially one who uses it. Isn't the move up to AA supposed to be the big one in a player's development? The pitching is supposed to be better, isn't it? Houston now has 140 PA, so it's no longer a SSS. but he is doing noticeably better at AA than at Hi-A, where he was very good. Tell me I'm smoking something Seth, is it possible Houston joins the Twins before year-end? I remember Robin Yount joined the Brew Crew the year after he was drafted. I think it was at the start of the season when he was still 18. Anything is possible!

    Never one to speculate on specific trades, I for one am looking forward to the next 31 hours. Remain hopeful it will be both exciting and productive.

    Have a question, Seth. Why would a team from the middle of California's wine country be called the Prune Packers? Continue to shake my head every day after looking at what Houston is doing. Can the Twins be fortunate to finally find a future super star? Hadn't realized he leads the organization with 40 steals with so few caught stealing.

    I am looking at this a bit differently. I don't know how good Minter will be the next two months. But I expect he will be better than the last couple guys currently in the pen. If the Twins sneak into the playoffs and he is somewhat responsible, FANTASTIC! The more important aspect of this trade was in part mentioned by bean above. That's the $3.4M the Twins are adding to payroll. Everyone has been waiting for Tom Pohlad to make good on his comments that they would add payroll if it would help make playing important baseball in September possible. The team has shocked the heck out of a lot of us with their play. It's great seeing them do what he said they would do in the spring. Just yesterday I was dreading the Twins dropping 2 of 3 to the Royal's before heading out on an important road trip to Seattle. Kept hoping for the impossible, until it happened.

    Thanks, Seth. Fantastic news regarding the draft picks. Thanks for all the detail about their first games. Not certain I like three of them getting HBP, but I guess it's baseball. Don't know what to think about Sabato with another double and home run. Have a sneaky suspicion the Twins may not know what to do with him either.

    Know nothing about him other than what I have read here and the Strib. Sounds like a perfect move to me. Solid reliever makes our pen stronger acquired at a minimal cost, i.e., two guys who are long shots to ever make it. Another plus no one is mentioning is Tom Pohlad's commitment to add payroll to make the team better. Understand he was in the second year of a $22,000,000 contract, with the Twins picking up around $3.5M. Not Correa like dollars, but also not chicken feed.

    Saw that Jenkins was 0-2, but with 2 walks. Checked his stats at St. Paul and saw he has struck out 31 times and walked 31 times. He is only striking out 15% of his plate appearances. Now that's the type of hitter the Twins need. Every time I look, I see a lot that reminds me of Mauer. I know most of us are hoping to see Jenkins with the Twins, hopefully soon. But I keep wondering, if the Front Office is convinced there are enough owners who are committed to getting better revenue sharing and a salary cap/floor, they likely believe there will either be no season next year or one starting very late. In that case, it makes sense to keep players like Jenkins, who don't have to be added to the 40-man in November off the 40-man so they can play minor league baseball next April. Would be interesting seeing what other clubs are doing with top prospects like Jenkins.

    To answer your question whether the Twins should be buyers or sellers, my answer is YES. As many above have stated, this is the year to sell a few players who are a must sell. That starts and maybe ends with Jeffers. But when selling, they must get back a pitcher who will help this year. And that pitcher must not be a rental. Trade a couple mid-to-upper-mid prospects for another reliever and rental starter and the Twins should be better on August 4 than they are today. I also continue to hope the Twins can package Wallner and a pitcher, perhaps someone like Raya, to the Rockies for a mid-level reliever. Could you imagine Wallner hitting in that thin air?

    When looking at yesterday's score and the DSL Twins record only one word comes to mind, "Ouch." Just when you think Houston is doing everything one could wish for, he puts up a week like this. Still believe he will likely stay in Wichita until late in the season. Does Rosario being sent back to Wichita indicate the Saints may be getting one of their injured corner outfielders back? Maybe EmRod?

    As I have been reading the comments about Larnach, with some saying we won't get a great return. You may be correct, in which case they should keep him. Was wondering, however, what did we get from the Phillies for Bader last year? Was it Able, or was he in the Duran trade? Bader was great defensively, but isn't Larnach hitting better than Bader was? Plus, did Bader have another year of control?

    It will be likely the Twins will have at least two guys on the bench every day who are good hitters. Makes a ton of sense, at least to me to leave the DH spot open to keep those players bats in the lineup more than waiting to start.

    Just another day for Houston, 2 hits including a home run. Didn't check if he stole a base. Winokur gets 3 hits including a home run. Most interesting, my math tells me he was striking out over 30% of the time in Cedar Rapids, but that is down to just under 25% in Wichita. I believe the Saints play a couple weeks longer than everyone else, don't they? If that's the case, would be a great time to promote Houston. Expect Culpepper will be up with the Twins before late September. As for Wallner. The Twins have to find that G.M. who is intrigued by his power and would like to add him to their roster. Maybe add another mid-level prospect to get something back for the future.

    Add me to the list of those who believe the Twins must trade Jeffers. That's assuming they get a reasonable offer. Hopefully, better than reasonable. As for Larnach, more 50/50. Should be moved if they get a very good offer. Add Wallner and maybe another prospect for some help for the pen and it will be an excellent deadline for the Twins. Most important, some of the return must be a pitcher who will help the Twins this year.

    Congratulations, Steven. Not many TD writers get to report on a no-no. Add me to those who continue to be pleasantly shocked with how well Houston keeps hitting after his move to AA. On the other hand, will agree with those who believe both he and Culpepper would benefit from a little more time at their current levels. Would like to see both moves before the end of September, however.

    Interesting question, Cody. On draft day I had heard all the talk about Lackey and knew nothing about the other 20 players picked by the Twins. Was excited they got Lackey. As for the others, zero, nada, zip. My first glance at this kid left me more than disappointed. The more I hear about him and after your excellent presentation I am more encouraged. Thanks.
