  1. Yes, Chargois will get MLB service time and pay for the balance of the season. Regarding next season, I'm not sure JT has an option left. Making the decision to burn one when he was injured even more curious. I'm not sure if he would qualify for an extra option year.
  2. I've mentioned this before, but if Chargois' agent is smart he would file a grievance to get Chargois pay and service time for the full year. The fact that they take it now would only strengthen that position. He's appeared in one game, which essentially was an attempt at rehab. It is pretty obvious to me that his injury is why he pitched poorly in ST and why he didn't make the team. Now, he's burned an option and we really don't know if he can contribute.
  3. I don't know if I would describe Pressly's outings of late as "fantastic". Sure, he had only given up 2 of his OWN runs dating back to the end of July prior to yesterday. But, he gave up 2 inherited runs in the Toronto game, two in a game against Cleveland and two more in a game in Oakland. It's been an issue for him all season long. He's inherited 31 runners and allowed 10 to score, 31%. By comparison, Taylor Rogers has allowed just 4 of 26 inherited runners to score, 15%. One would think that Pressly would be the guy to go to in a sticky situation because he does have the ability to get a strikeout. Indeed, only Hildenberger has a better K rate out of the pen. But, his failure rate is a tad high.
  4. If the Yankees were smart, they would go old school by train. Probably be faster than even flying given the location of the stadiums relative to the airports.
  5. Garver was the guy selected to be the pinch hitter, 1st and 3rd two outs. Not sure I would have taken Kepler out, but Garver was probably the best chance for a hit there. Therein lies the issue of a poor bench. I was surprised Erv started the 7th as well. I expected match up relievers the rest of the way. Ervin is "your guy" but he also just coughed up a lead the previous inning. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...
  6. Giminez was bunting. That failure is on him. Frankly, I like Adrianza's chances of getting a base hit over Vargas or Granite- the only other logical candidates. If the Twins had been down two runs, then I think you see Vargas. You are at home. You play for the tie.
  7. But is there payroll flexibility. I think that's the bigger issue. I think expecting payroll to be much over $115 mil is wishful thinking. Management is well aware that a bunch of guys will have big paydays shortly.
  8. Ervin owes Buxton a steak if the Twins hold on to this lead. Might see a lot of left, right, left right to get the final 9 outs.
  9. wtf do you mean "we'll see if it's a hit or an error", Dick?
  10. Joe Mauer, up close and personal.
  11. It was at 420 when they closed it 15 years or so ago. It was probably at least 450 once upon a time.
  12. BOLD prediction: Byron Buxton establishes a new AL single season record for triples during his career. The current record is 26, set by Sam Crawford in 1914.
  13. But when you already have Mejia who has performed easily as well as a back end guy and makes basically minimum salary, doesn't it make more sense to spend that $5 mil elsewhere?
  14. It has been awhile since he has pitched. I imagine the Twins wanted to get him in there. His only role in this series in a close game is likely pitching to Hosmer and Moustakas. Only 13 pitches. He should be fine tomorrow. I would guess Turley and Perkins for the 8th and 9th. Maybe not Turley. They might want to hold him to be the long guy if needed tomorrow.
  15. Vargas for Mauer, Granite or Kepler for Buxton, Goodrum for Dozier.
  16. Koskie and Morneau both played hockey in their younger years. Mauer played football through high school. I wonder if their concussion issues are rooted in those sports. Everything suggests the damage is cumulative. That is, each one - no matter the severity - makes the symptoms worse.
  17. Pretty good bet Niko gets into tonight's game.
  18. And we thought the Twins had pitching issues
  19. Duffey has pitched at least 2 innings 14 times this year. Yesterday was just the second time he gave up more than one run in any of those outings. In the other 12, he's given up a total of 3 runs. In those 14 two plus inning outings, he's logged 31 2/3 IP and given up 6 ER - two of which were yesterday. That's a 1.71 ERA. I'm not sure what more you can expect from a long reliever. Duffey's worst month was July when the Twins tried using him in 1 IP stints. Those results were terrible.
  20. Yeah, that was phrased poorly. Tonkin is not on the 40 man roster. Therefore, someone would need to come off to make room. Speculating that the most reasonable candidate in that instance would be Glen Perkins. I still think bringing up Anthony Recker would be a higher priority. Just don't feel comfortable with the catching situation right now. It actually might benefit Tonkin to not come up. As I said, he's done well in AAA. If he stays down, those are the numbers future employers will look at, because they are the most recent. If he comes up and bombs...
  21. If I'm doing the math right, Vargas' slash line since June is .253/.359/.429. The raw numbers are 17 for 67, with 4 doubles, 2 HR, 10 BB and a HBP. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
  22. So, if not Duffey, who would you bring into a game in the 3rd inning trailing 5-2? Pressly hasn't exactly been reliable. You wouldn't use Hildenberger, Busenitz, Belisle, or Rogers that early. Perkins? He's not going to give you multiple innings effectively. Neither would Boshers. Curtiss really isn't a multiple inning guy either. That leaves Turley. Are you sure he's better than Duffey? It's all fine and dandy to say Duffey shouldn't have pitched. What's the alternative?
  23. Lachlan Wells made his return to the Fort Myers mound last week. It was not exactly triumphant. He came into the game after Lewis Thorpe threw one inning on August 28. Things started out well. He retired the first seven batters he faced. Then, in the 4th inning, St. Lucie used a couple singles and a stolen base to scratch out a run. Tim Tebow led off the bottom of the 5th with a double off of Wells. Two outs later, it looked like Wells might get through unscathed. But then a walk, to the 9th place hitter. It's ALWAYS the #### walks! Flip the lineup over and Jacob Zanon doubled home two runs. Wells would walk another hitter before striking Ian Strom to end the 5th, and his day. Final line 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; 72 pitches, 43 strikes. The only offense mounted by the Miracle was a Brent Rooker 2 run homerun in the first. So Lachlan Wells picked up the loss to fall to 4-10, with a 4.24 ERA. Wells is starting tonight (9/2) for Fort Myers.
  24. Barring the release of Glen Perkins, I'd guess no. IMO he is the best candidate to take off the 40 man to make room. Of course, an injury might change plans. He's pitched well in AAA this year. I think he could still be a serviceable MLB reliever. At least against RHB.
