  1. I heard they stopped fireworks because too many people mistook them for gunshots and started shooting.
  2. The Sox being a lousy team in a lousy neighborhood isn't a new thing either.
  3. Yes, come to US Cellular. Watch a lousy team. Maybe get shot as you leave. There's a marketing campaign.
  4. For allowing 8 baserunners to the same lineup which got two off Dillon Gee yesterday? Color me unimpressed. Slegers mowing through the D-Backs lineup last week. That was impressive.
  5. Not often you have your # 3 hitter bunt.
  6. Why not insert Slegers? Gee is theoretically already in the rotation, not?
  7. Yes. I understand all this. But Chargois was optioned out in ST because he pitched poorly. It was basically right after that that he went on the shelf. The logical and undeniable conclusion is that he pitched poorly because he was hurt. At that time, the Twins could have rescinded his option (and thus saved an option for possible use in the future) and placed him on the MLB DL. The Twins decided not to do this. Other teams have. I can't think of examples, but this issue was discussed in May and examples were given then. The Twins decided that saving a few bucks and not giving Chargois service time was more valuable than saving an option and eventually a 40 man roster spot. The Twins didn't know that in March, but they did by May. Just remember this some day in the future if the Twins want to send Chargois down but can't because he's out of options.
  8. I think the Twins should stick with whatever their original plan was. If it was a pitch count limit or an IP limit. You aren't going to do Romero any favors if he can't pitch deeper into the season. As long as he isn't feeling pain in his arm, stick with whatever the plan originally was. He has to be getting close to whatever cap the Twins have in mind.
  9. Or maybe he looks at his own stats and says, hmm, better with no one on. Hit lead off! Better for the team if he is productive with no one on than if he is not productive with runners on. Not?
  10. lol, you're kidding right? Of course half the infielders have negative UZR. A zero UZR would be league average. Half above. Half below.
  11. Escobar is a poor fielder at several positions. He has a negative UZR everywhere he has played for his career except shortstop, where it is 0.2, which is still not good.
  12. A lot of "average fans" have been saying that for 40 years. And they still draw over 2,000,000 per year. With a team that has lost 95 games plus in 4 of the previous 6 seasons. In a metro area of fewer than 3,000,000. If there is one thing pro sports fans in Minnesota have shown it is that they will come back.
  13. I don't know what SDI measures, but Valencia has 9 errors at first base. Not saying errors are the be all stat of fielding. But that total is kinda hard to ignore.
  14. I'm sure actual attendance was even lower in 2016.
  15. They should have solid "walk up" sales the rest of the way. Believe it or not, there are only 15 home dates remaining. As I stated previously, they are already slightly ahead of 2016 attendance. They certainly didn't generate walk up sales last year. They should top 30,000 for the remaining weekend games. The Royals games usually draw well. As do the Blue Jays. If the Twins are still in contention, they could sell out the final weekend against the Tigers.
  16. He has value in that he is a healthy pitcher. That alone gives him value. It certainly has nothing to do with performance. Take away his only good period (first half of 2015) and he has an ERA well north of 5.
  17. If you dig a little further into 2015, you will see very good first half, bad second half. Indeed, the first half of 2015 is the only substantial period of Gibson's career when he wasn't average to poor.
  18. Attendance per game is up slightly this year (about 650 per game). It figures to jump more down the stretch with the Twins in contention when they were all but eliminated by this time last season.
  19. Revenue generated isn't a meaningless constraint. Twins have pretty consistently capped player salaries at about 50% of team revenue. They've been below that figure in some years, but I don't think they have gone over it in recent memory. Twins revenue in 2016 was about $ 249 mil, up from $ 240 mil in 2015, according to this report. Assuming a modest increase for 2017, maybe to $ 255 to $ 260 mil. That still caps payroll at $ 130 mil, at best. That would put them 16th in 2017, behind the Rockies.
  20. Gibson should have been out of chances last September.
  21. I don't think one can assume that. The Twins scored two runs off Rodon in 6 plus innings. The Sox do have some good relievers left. The Twins didn't see them until the 9th because the game wasn't close until the 9th. Point being the Twins loss in game one had more to do with their mound opponent than who they put on the mound IMO.
  22. Which is why JT Chargois remains a wasted spot on the 40 man roster. The Twins could have retroactively placed him on the MLB 60 day DL. They chose not to do so. No service time. No MLB salary.
  23. Yeah, Gibson went 4 last time. And threw more pitches than Selgers, who went 6 1/3. As for giving credit to Falvey if the Twins win, I'll keep an open mind if A) Gibson actually pitches at least 6 innings - something he has done in less than 1/3 of his starts this year B ) the Twins offense scores fewer than 8 runs - in other words, Gibson actually had to keep the Sox offense in check. He's given up 5 runs or more in 1/3 of his starts this year. He's only made 3 starts in which he gave up fewer than 3 runs. Gibson isn't good. Hasn't been good for more than 2 years now. I have no idea if Slegers will stick long term as a starter for the Twins (or anywhere else). But right now I think he gives the team a considerably better chance to win. It baffles me that the decision makers who have watched these guys pitch, don't see it that way.
