  1. Oh. I thought something bad happened or something.
  2. Did I miss something during the broadcast? Is there some reason why they are talking about TK all of a sudden? Honest question. Not trying to be cute.
  3. Bring in Goodrum. I think even he could get a hit against this pitching staff.
  4. Anyone trademark "Buck pluck" to describe a great catch by Byron yet?
  5. 50 pitches in 3 innings. He has a 9-0 lead and he may not get past 6. At least it isn't likely that the "A Team" relievers will need to work tonight.
  6. Yeah, the Padres are not a MLB team right now.
  7. I can't believe they left Wood out there. Isn't 7 runs enough? Edit: Is 9 enough. btw, Gibson has a run support number of better than 6.
  8. When asked about how a group of inexperienced people would perform under real pressure, a logical, wise man once said "As with all living beings, each according to their gifts."
  9. I'm not sure anyone really saw Jorge has a double digit HR guy. I know I did not. 34 career minor league HRs in 2500 PA.
  10. Getting a lot of knocks off Wood...
  11. In an ironic twist, arguably Brad Radke's best statistical season was 2004. He ranked 3rd in the AL for bWAR among pitchers and 3rd in ERA+. Of course, he ranked 2nd on his team.
  12. Probably because the only thing either one really does is hit. One is at the MLB level and the other is the only position player on the 40 man roster who is not.
  13. One thing that could give players with postseason experience an edge is the longer road. It's mid September. This is only the second season Sanchez or Judge have even played this deep into September. Now, they may have 30-50 games left. Nearly all of which are crucial. It's a physical and mental drain that one needs to prepare for.
  14. Palka isn't fast or considered a good defensive outfielder. So, other than Palka's hitting, which isn't likely to be better than Vargas', what in your opinion does he bring to the table that Vargas does not? btw, Vargas has a career .815 AAA OPS, substantially higher than Palka's. And although the overall milb numbers are close, Vargas' are higher. Keeping in mind that he made his pro debut at 18, as opposed to 21 like Palka. When Vargas was 21, he was posting a 1.030 OPS over a full season at A ball. Palka played mostly rookie ball at 21. So, yes we know what Vargas is, but given their minor league numbers, it seems likely that Palka wouldn't be as good.
  15. Curious take. Palka has a career .767 OPS in AAA. Vargas has a career .745 OPS at the MLB level. Palka is only 18 months younger.
  16. I guess when I am labeling a pitcher with a number, it IS based on his performance. A ranking relative to his team, and even relative to the league. That is, just because Brad Radke was the Twins number one for much of his career, doesn'g mean he was one of the 30 best in MLB.
  17. Who's punishing them? Simply pointing out that they are not postseason tested. At all. Whereas the two teams they likely would face beyond the Wild Card Game (Houston and/or Cleveland) do have some recent playoff experience.
  18. Check back for the answer to that question come playoff time. Williams has 4 rings. Posada just missed the first one.
  19. Probably has more to do with the emergence of Adrianza than anything else.
  20. Another difference is that Vargas isn't among the worst hitters in Twins history. Prior to the last 4 starts, I believe Gibson was the worst pitcher in Twins history with over 400 IP.
  21. Still talking about an enormous difference between the amount of money that Perkins has made in his career and the amount Mientkiewicz made in his. Point being they should be able to afford private insurance. It's a nice benefit, but it seems targeted wrong. Just a hunch that Mientkiewicz is at the low end of salary earned for guys that make 10 years. And even he is at $ 13 mil plus. Which is, compared to Joe Lunchbucket, a lot of money. It seems like the people who would need this more are guys who just fade away. Like a Mike Maksudian (no idea why his name popped into my head btw).
  22. A guy who's made roughly $ 30 mil in salary really shouldn't need full retirement brnefits. As I note on my Yahoo feed that Clinton Portis just filed for bankruptcy.
  23. As far as I know there are no rules about where any defender has to be except that the pitcher has to start on the mound, the catcher behind the plate and everyone else has to start in fair territory. Every now and then you see a 5 infielder alignment. That individual doesn't need to report a position change and is free to go back after the play or more likely the next inning if there is one.
