  1. What's amazing to me is that the Twins loaded the bases, hit into a DP and then a groundout all in 10 pitches. Way to work the count guys.
  2. Start delayed. Contrary to popular belief, I am not a meteorologist. But, I did eat at a restaurant across from a Holiday Inn Express two days ago.
  3. Not sure I buy that either. The Twins had a different catcher last year. Other than Berrios, who is substantially better? I know it's not the end all standard, but in terms of ERA: Santana and Gibson are almost dead on. Rogers is slightly better, but trending worse lately. Duffy is better, but I chalk that up to relieving instead of starting. Pressly is worse. Tonkin is worse. Boshers is worse. Kintzler was about the same. Santiago is/was worse. The improved team ERA comes largely from guys that weren't around in 2016 (or, in Berrios' case weren't around as much in 2016). So, the question remains, what evidence supports the assertion that Castro has been a positive influence on the pitching staff?
  4. It might be a late night and a delay at some point, maybe even a delayed start. But future radar shows most of the rain out of the Bronx by 8 edt. I think they get the game in tonight.
  5. I don't know if I would put much stock into that. How can he be one of the best at saving runs due to his pitch calling when his pitch calling is largely responsible for a below average pitching staff?
  6. I don't happen to agree that pinch hitting for Adrianza is as automatic as hitting for Castro. Adrianza sports a .333 obp vs rhp this year and Betances is a walk machine.
  7. Yes, he was. Sure, technically Shane Mack put up a higher WAR in 1991. But anyone who is old enough to remember 1991 remembers that Mack started the season so poorly that he was benched. The plan going into 1991 was to have Mack play CF with Puckett playing RF. But when he needed to be benched and largely platooned through the first couple months, he was taken out of CF and Puck returned. And let's not forget what Puckett did in the postseason. Yes, it matters. .897 career playoff OPS.
  8. Then put in a better hitter. Kepler and Vargas both hit RHP very well.
  9. But they pinch hit for Castro. To bunt. That's ridiculous in a one run game. First of all, as a guy who isn't a good hitter, I would guess bunting is probably something he does pretty well. Second, you have Kepler and Vargas on the bench. Betances has allowed 9 extra base hits out of the 28 hits he has allowed this year- plus all the walks. An extra base hit ties the game for sure and potentially sets up taking a lead. Vargas and especially Kepler have done very well vs RHP. If you are going to hit for Castro, maybe use a guy that can, you know, actually hit.
  10. Puckett was also boosted by being the best player on two World Series winners. For the guys on the fence, that has a tendency to sway voters. That's why Mattingly is not in IMO. His career coincided with one of the longest title droughts in Yankee history. Or perhaps voters decided it wasn't a coincidence at all.
  11. The eyeball vs stats. Stats usually win. The stats say Dozier isn't significantly a different hitter with runners on as opposed to no one in terms of ops+. Both are right in line with his career norms. Which is what one would expect given a long enough career.
  12. They can't stop staring at the pinstripes.
  13. One has to wonder re: Ellsbury inducing a bunch of catcher's interference calls if he is outside the batter's box.
  14. Umm, Bremer needs to retire. How does he forget that Dozier has 30 plus HR?
  15. Yes, but in probably 25 other parks, that's barely a warning track fly ball.
  16. Is it concerning that, even though well over the fence, Rosario was 30-40 feet to the left of where the ball left the stadium?
  17. The Yankees (team of Lou Gerhig, Chris Chambliss, Don Mattingly and Tino Martinez) have their first baseman hitting 9th.
  18. They may not bave been similar situations, but I honestly don't think anyone would have second guessed pulling Gibson after the second inning Donaldson HR. Especially with his track record.
  19. Brian Dozier has 73 HR over the last two seasons. It is the most in a two year stretch by a Twin since Harmon Killebrew hit 90 in 1969-70.
  20. So, I wonder if in his one start the team was able to pick up anything about Garcia that might help them tomorrow. Mauer has terrible career numbers against CC. 1 for 15 since 2012. Have to think he gets that day off. He's not realistically going to play in all the remaining games. With Wednesday being a day game, Tuesday is probably a good day. Obviously, there needs to be a balance between putting the best people out there and making sure those people don't break down.
  21. I know some people are of the opinion that you should shuffle your lineup based on who's hot, who's not. I disagree. Invariably, the moves are made after a hot or cold spell has already been going on for several games. I'm of the school of thought that says you set a lineup and stick with it for the most part. Obviously, injuries and off days cause shuffling. That said, with Miguel Sano playing (although he isn't likely to play 3b this year again), I think I like a lineup of 2b Dozier 1b Mauer dh Sano lf Rosario ss Polanco cf Buxton rf Kepler 3b Escobar c Castro I like Polanco in the 5 spot. I think his contact ability plays well sandwiched between a bunch of guys that sometimes struggle with contact.
