  1. Warning track power. Rosario is a bum.
  2. Years past? Two, three months in the past.
  3. So, who gets to try to make an impression today? Turley? Curtiss? Looks like Slegers.
  4. Showing DRS on tv. Buxton has more than the next two. COMBINED.
  5. Blue Jays are mailing it in now.
  6. Assuming Gibson is done, compared with 2016, he has 2 more starts, exact same innings, 5 fewer hits, exactly same earned runs, 3 more walks, 5 more strikeouts, 1 more homerun. I don't know if it's possible for a guy to have consecutive seasons any more identical. Edit for one extra inning.
  7. Get him out of there NOW. That's two BULLETS in a row.
  8. And he laid an absolute egg. He has a lead right now and may even get a win. But this is the Gibson we have seen for the majority of his career. Not very good. Doesn't command his pitches well enough.
  9. Not sure why you wouldn't hit for Escobar in a one run game vs a RHP. Both Vargas and Grossman are better than Escobar vs RHP.
  10. Yeah, I knew that. You do that by starting the streak 14 games back. The Giants also had a 17 game winning streak earlier in that season. After it, they were only 19-13.
  11. I wonder if the 1926 G I wonder if the 1926 Giants crack a case of champagne every year like the 1972 Dolphins... If any of them are undead...
  12. I could be wrong, but I feel like Pressly was a rule 5 guy his rookie year.
  13. I actually think they did. I think if one looks at numbers from games in Seattle vs the Jays, I would bet they are higher than the average for that particular season.
  14. For Jays fans in say Winipeg, Minneapolis is a helluva lot closer than Toronto.
  15. Looks like the Jays know how to bunt.
  16. Yeah, 10 relievers. In a close game, maybe 3 or 4 of which have earned any confidence. And two of those guys probably aren't available.
  17. Wonder how much rope they give Colon. I can't blame Molitor for trying to milk a few more outs (no weight jokes please) from Bart. The "good" bullpen guys have been worked a lot lately.
  18. Bert was just mentioning Colon's pitch count. Is that even a relevant thing for him? The hitters will let you know when he is done.
  19. Yes, I'm well aware of the finer points of the contract. Of course, almost 1/4 of the salary he earned that year was in IP performance incentives. His base salary was $ 3 mil. That was still pretty high for that era, of course. But that wasn't even the highest pitcher base salary for 1991. I'm not sure what salary has to do with being the best. It doesn't change Morris' stats from 1989 and 1990. They were terrible. I'm on my computer now. My phone and fangraphs don't get along. Don't ask me why. They just don't. Morris fWAR for 89-90 was 4.3, 52nd among qualifying pitchers. So, the Twins vastly overpaid for Morris (just like they did with Nolasco, et al). Like I said, in 1991 it just happened to work.
  20. Check out the article on the strib. Bush league IMO.
  21. Guess we're going to find out how good Happ is at holding runners.
  22. Sometimes smoke and mirrors works. At least for awhile.
  23. IMO, calling Morris the best pitcher available in 1991 is revisionist history to the extreme. I don't know what other FA were avaialble but there is no way Morris was the best by any measure. Morris was coming off by far the two worst seasons of his career to that point. In 1989-90, Morris was one of the worst starting pitchers in MLB that qualified. He had a a -.1 bWAR in 1989 and and a .7 bWAR in 1990. He turned 36 six weeks into the 1991 season. Conventional wisdom was that he was done. Dumpster diving is a long, honored tradition for the Twins FO. Sometimes, it works.
