  1. Colon left due to "illness." Watching him pitch was making Molitor sick...
  2. So, will Molitor bunt? Seems hit and run would be the logical play here.
  3. The alternative is allowing Colon to continue to pitch. I'll take door number one.
  4. There's almost never an error when an out is made.
  5. Yeah. Colon on the postseason roster? No.
  6. That lead lasted longer than I expected.
  7. Granite? Adrianza? The only hitters the Twins might pinch hit for against the Yankees are Castro and Kepler. In both cases, most likely vs a LHP. Castro could be hit for vs a RHP too though. Probably only going to use Vargas vs RHP. Adrianza is better vs LHP, but not so terrific that he's likely to be used as a pinch hitter over Garver. Adrianza is more likely to be used as a pinch runner and defensive replacement.
  8. What possible purpose does Niko Goodrum serve? At least Garver is marginally competent RH bat.
  9. How do you make a homer hanky dance? Put some Berenguer Boogie into it...
  10. No, you can't. Because if you don't win the WC game, there is no ALDS. Say Erv doesn't have it and needs to be pulled in the second or even the first. If you don't have someone else rested and ready to step in, your season is over. Given that Gibson is slated to start Friday and Berrios Saturday, it seems like the emergency back up for the WC is Mejia. This is why pushing Gibson back to Friday might not be such a wonderful idea. He was originally slated to start Wednesday. Meaning, he would have been on full rest for the WC. Sure, as it stands now, Gibson or Berrios would be rested for game one of the ALDS. But what if you need one of them (or both) in the wild card game just to get there?
  11. The most likely scenario that would be involves having the # 9 hitter bunt. So, they walk Dozier to bring up Mauer. 1) Not too many teams are going to do that the way Mauer is hitting this year. 2) If they do, is it a bad thing? Sure, you have a drastically increased chance for a GIDP, but you are letting a far more reliable contact hitter take his cuts.
  12. You skip Colon to keep Santana on track for the WC game. Although it sounds like they will do that by pushing Gibson back to Friday. Interesting decision. It means that Kyle Gibson's final 8 starts of 2017 will be against the White Sox, Blue Jays (2), Royals (2), Padres and Tigers (2). The Tigers currently rank 15th in MLB in OPS. But we saw last week that they are a team that has "mailed it in" and that they have almost no major league reliever. The other four teams rank 23rd, 24th, 25th and 29th in OPS in MLB. All of you buying Gibson's "rebirth" can believe in it as much as you choose. I choose to wait and see how he fares against a halfway decent team before jumping on the bandwagon. Unfortunately, that won't happen this year unless it is in the playoffs.
  13. Speaking of Sorrento, trading Vargas in ST would certainly be an option. If they can get a Curtis Leskanic for him, that would be a pretty good haul. He was a solid reliever for a lot of years.
  14. I'm not sure what the relevance of pitching 6 innings plus means for the postseason. The recent trend in the playoffs has beento err on the side of pulling a guy too early rather than leaving him in too long. I'd rather have a guy be effective for 5, heck even 4 innings, then get beaten up slowly over 6 or 7. With all the off days in the playoffs, a team can literally use every reliever in every game for 15-20 pitches.
  15. At this point, all the Indians are playing for is potential home field in the ALCS and the World Series. They'll play to win, to be sure. But they will be smart about it. They will play the guys who need to play, pitch the guys that need to pitch and rest the guys that need to rest.
  16. Check the Molitor MOY/fired thread for the answer.
  17. The bottom line is that Falvey deserves to have someone of his choosing in the dugout. IMO that is all that matters. It's more about Falvey than Molitor I think.
  18. The platooning problem will sort itself out when/if Kepler starts to hit LHP even a little bit. He has had a good week vs LHP, but his overall numbers vs LHP would make Jacque Jones cringe. None of the other regulars has a serious enough split to even consider platooning other than Castro's career mark.
  19. Santiago? Seriously? Has he even picked up a baseball in the last two weeks?
  20. Rangers and Royals both lost today. So they are both 76-79. Angels are playing the Astros tonight.
  21. Could almost use this same thread for today's game summary...
  22. Hip. No word as to how serious.
  23. Yeah, probably a good decision.
