  1. The zone definitely looks tight. As was predicted given this umpire.
  2. The difference being that Hague has MLB experience AND hits right handed AND can play third base.
  3. That .789 OPS ranked 8th in the IL this year among qualifiers. No one is claiming he is the second Miguel Sano. But, yeah, he’s by far the best bat the Twins had in AAA after Garver. And yes, I think he would definitely have helped more tonight than Adalberto Mejia is likely to.
  4. I think Sano would be more helpful than Mejia. If Sano really is too far removed from game shape to be useful, even as a pinch hitter, the Twins should have planned for that possibility and activated Matt Hague for September. Think about it. What happens if Escobar gets hurt? Adrianza is at third with Giminez as his back up. That is poor roster construction. It’s a failure on the part of the FO to adequately plan. I’ll turn it around and ask, what is Mejia’s role? Long man? Okay. Already have Gee, Berrios and Duffey. How many long relievers do you need for one game? Lefty specialist? Okay. Umm, hmmm. That’s fine except that Mejia has gotten MLB RHB out better than LHB. He really has no discernible split in terms of OPS, but LHB are slightly better.
  5. FWIW, the Twins had 6 baserunners in 3 innings against Severino less than two weeks ago.
  6. IMO, that’s Gee.
  7. One interesting thing. Well, to me anyway. I always thought Ehire was pronounced “Ay hare”. The pronounciation guide says “ay ray”.
  8. Really not that far out of the box. He hits right handed. Plays a functional 3b, 1b and lf. Has some MLB experience. Had he been up all September, he might have been ahead of Garver as far as who to roster.
  9. Then Matt Hague should have been activated and given a trial.
  10. If the game is close enough to go extras, it probably means the Twins got 5 plus out of Erv. For even a 12 inning game (which would be 3 extra innings), that’s still barely 2 outs per guy with 9 relievers. The Twins just set a team record by using 10 pitchers in a 9 inning game. An extra bat would likely be far more useful. Obviously, Sano being healthier would help. Your top pinch hitters are now Vargas and Adrianza. And you really have no one to hit for Kepler vs lhp late in a critical spot. If the Twins use 11 pitchers it means they are getting blown out of the water.
  11. 11 pitchers is beyond dumb IMO. Notice the Yankees have only 10. Paul Molitor. Outmanaged, 10 hours before the first pitch.
  12. I considered that, but the stats from # 3 are from the regular season. And it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn that the Twins ranked best in runs scored since say September 5th.
  13. Even with Sano, there are only 16 active position players. You would rather have Goodrum as your third string pinch runner than Vargas, who could also change the game with one swing?
  14. I’m trying to decide if # 1 is supposed to be a joke or simply a mistype.
  15. The Twins cuffed Severino around pretty good just a few weeks ago. Fortunately, the Yankees biggest HR threats are almost all better vs lhp. The only guys you would want to face a lhp are Gregorious, Ellsbury and Gardner. And the Yanks would likely hit Hicks for Gardner vs lhp. Point being second lefty might not be that crucial. Hildenberger has good numbers vs LHB as well. Boshers was pretty bad the last couple weeks vs the lefties he saw, but I don’t think one can ignore his career mark against them. As for Moya, I didn’t look up his mlb splits because of sss. But in the minors this year, he was much MUCH better vs RHB. Last year, mostly in low A ball, there wasn’t much difference. Point being, he’s not even considered a loogy imo.
  16. Not sure being a friend, and by extension a contemporary, of Bruce Springsteen helps Molitor’s case. Springsteen’s last hit was “Streets of Philadelphia” in 1994. Kinda just shows that Molitor is old.
  17. Yes. That particular aspect could have been handled better. Literally anyone else facing Romine I would have had no issue. But everyone over the age of 10 in that stadium knew Sano was only in the game to get at bats against MLB pitching.
  18. I doubt Ausmus approached Romine with the idea. It's far more likely that Romine asked for a chance to do it. Obviously, the manager is making the decision, but there is usually no reason to say no for a team out of contention. As for why not at home, short answer is because the Tigers weren't at home. Doing that last week, when the Twins were in Detroit, would have been frowned upon because the games still had meaning. I suppose he could have done it against the White Sox or Angels, but maybe he didn't have the idea until after that.
  19. Would think Giminez or Escobar could do it easily. Both have played most of the positions already. Gimenez might look pretty ugly at 2b or ss, but hopefully nothing would be hit to him in those spots. The only place Escobar hasn't played in his career is first base.
