  1. I’m not sure I agree with the almost presumed assesment that “this is the time”. Still an awful lot of uncertainty on the roster IMO. Which Byron Buxton will show up this year? Will Kepler hit LHP? Is Rosario really what he was last year? Will Sano stay healthy? Will he be suspended for a large chunk of time? Will Berrios remain consistent? What about after him? Not much there, even with a Darvish. A two man rotation might get it done in the playoffs, but you have to get there first. Even with Darvish, the opening day # 3 had a 5 plus ERA the last two years. Still bullpen questions. Plenty of new faces. How will it all shake out? Awful lot of pressure on Hildenberger and Rogers, two still extremely green relievers. Say the Twins get Darvish but it turns out Sano is on the DL more than he plays the next 5 years, Kepler never hits LHP, Rosario and Buxton slide back. Now you have a great ace on an otherwise lousy team. Still a lot of unknowns I think to say “this year is our shot”.
  2. Which leads back to the question, why wasn't his progress checked earlier during the offseason? Seems to me it should have been and it doesn't sound like it was.
  3. I don’t think anyone would be put on the “regular” DL until the last few days of ST. Players could certainly be added to the 60 day.
  4. He ended the 2017 season with Rochester as one of their catchers. He’s got some MLB experience.
  5. I haven’t paid a whole lot of attention to minor league comings and goings this offseason. What happened to Anthony Recker? I’m not overly concerned. There are a lot of experienced catchers out there.
  6. FWIW, there have been a few players and at least one agent (not surprisingly, Scott Boras) who have shall we say “speculated aloud” that something less than random is happening. The counter argument is extremely valid: next year’s class could be much more attractive and the increased use of analytics means that the same type of mindsets are making these decisions. 5-7 contracts for 30 year olds who aren’t uber stars may be a thing of the past.
  7. Brian Duensing resigns with Cubs. The one that got away? Just let him walk for nothing. He probably has 5 plus good years in a role every team needs.
  8. Bub’s. A bar and grill downtown. Kind of a towny place. Country Kitchen has been closed for 5 years or so.
  9. Probably belongs in sports bar, but oh well.
  10. [NOTE: Use this thread to post your sightings and stories of the Twins Caravan as they make their way through the various communities. Thanks, Yarni, for getting it going with your sighting from Winona.] The Twins are on their caravan tour and in Winona. They are just finishing at a local eatery I frequent. We mostly left them alone, but they did oblige some autographs. Busenitz, Escobar, Molitor, Morris and Gladden are here. No sign of TC...
  11. Conspicuous by his abscence of the list of good Twins baserunners: Eddie Rosario. Which kinda confirms what our eyes were telling us last season. He’s plenty fast, decision making is poor, and that’s being kind.
  12. That’s the most recent example of teams being CAUGHT (and punished) for collusion. There have been rumblings since then. Mid 2000s or so was one of the more recent. But nothing was ever proven in years since. I saw sn article on mlbtraderumors that said there have been half as many transactions to this point in the offseason as the 2012-13 offseason. Half. It certainly whiffs of collusion.
  13. Or, like most of the other 29 teams, the Twins could actually put 11 or 12 legitimate MLB pitchers on their roster.
  14. I remember I called a 9 th inning lead off walk off homerun. Don’t recall what board that was or exactly when.
  15. It’s happened before. The most recent time the owners were caught attempting to restrict player movement, the result was Jack Morris coming to the Twins. Do I know it is happening now? Of curse not. Just wondering if there are any rumblings about it, from agents or the MLBPA.
  16. So, regarding the “ice cold” hot stove. Anyone hearing the “C” word? As in “ Collusion”?
  17. Any theory that Buxton kinda being a ball hog might negatively impact Rosario’s range metrics?
  18. Shortstop has been a black hole since day one for the franchise. There have been maybe 5 guys that have started the majority of games for 3 consecutive years: Zoilo, Smalley, Gagne, Meares and Guzman. Coming up on 60 years of the Twins and those 5 manned the spot for maybe 25 of them.
  19. A lot of people are noting that any potential suspension would need to go through the MLBPA. That is true, but if the allegations hold enough truth, I don’t suspect the Union will put up a fight. They have smart people over there. Smart enough to pick their battles. I suspect this is one battle they want nothing to do with. One other thing, Sano is now in a position where he needs to maximize his baseball salary. He has zero value to any company to promote their product.
  20. I don’t see what Zach Duke brings to the table that Ryan O’Rourke (whom the Twins released) didn’t already have. “Experience”? Translation: he’s old and likely due to regress. Sure, coming off TJS, O’Rourke is a bit unknown. But it would seem that a loogy role would be pretty easy to come back to after.
  21. One thing that all your sabremetrics don’t take into account is 3 rings. That’s why he’s in. His regular season stats don’t stand out in any way. He may well be in because of one game. That game was the best postseason pitching performance in the last 60 years - basically in the memory of the overwhelming majority of everyone alive. That was the voter’s choice. People vote. Not computers. Because people play the game.
  22. But what I am saying is that his overall ERA could have been even lower if he had been lifted for a reliever instead of being allowed to give up a late inning run here and there. And I think that was the case for the bulk of his career. As has been noted, he played on a lot of big time offensive teams. That he had big leads a lot certainly wouldn’t be a surprise.
  23. Giving up any runs is going to increase one’s ERA. Say for example, Morris was in the 8th inning with a 6-1 lead. A couple guys get on. Maybe a less experienced pitcher gets pulled and those runs don’t score. Morris stays in, but gives up a run. Maybe even two. He finishes the inning. Maybe even the game.
  24. Reputation I suppose. Which is why Harrelson has no chance. Posting links doesn’t work well with my dinosaur phone. But it is all over Chicago media.
