  1. This is where the Twins have missed Polanco (and more recently Mauer) and his contact approach.
  2. Don’t these statements contradict each other? But it does make my point. I am saying exactly that. Molitor ALREADY has faith in Belisle. IMO he will have to fail to lose Molitor’s trust.
  3. I don’t know about 7th or 8th exclusively, but I’ll wager 6th, 7th or possibly the 8th in the mix with Reed, Pressly and Hildenberger. Magill and Rogers are the tail of the bullpen. I don’t figure this move changes that. Duke is the # 1 loogy. Molitor will use Belisle in higher leverage situations than Magill and Rogers because of what he did last year. Maybe even higher than Hildenberger. That is simply the way he manages.
  4. So, if I have followed the ups and downs the last few days correctly, the bench players for today are Grossman, Wilson and Cave. Meaning that the Twins won’t pinch hit for Adrianza late in the game because the only other infielder is the DH.
  5. The odds of him getting hurt again this year are pretty high. There’s a reason why there aren’t many three hundred pound infielders.
  6. Has Magill even pitched in June? How about a pitcher that is reliable so the Twins can give a little breather to Hildenberger, Pressly and Reed? The only plausible conclusion is that the Twins plan to use him higher leverage situations. He won’t be at “the end” of the pen. That’s Magill and Rogers. He’ll be in the mix in the 6th, 7th and 8th with the aforementioned guys needing rest. Smoke and mirrors only works for so long. The guy just doesn’t possess quality stuff.
  7. In ‘06 the catalyst was getting rid of Castro and Batista in favor of Bartlett and Punto. A big slugger getting hot helped a little too.
  8. I don’t think that is an accurate assessment. If they had wanted another first baseman, they would have Vargas up and DFA him again once Mauer was ready. He cleared waivers twice before, he’ll clear again. And if he doesn’t is it something anyone is concerned about?
  9. 1) I believe I mentioned that Buxton’s lack of productivity has been discussed plenty. Not recently because he’s on the DL, which I believe I also mentioned. 2) A big part of Buxton’s impact was always going to be and is always going to be defense. The offensive impact was always expected to be less than Sano’s. 3) Sano was never expected to be a plus defender. Indeed, the hope was for at least close to league average. Therefore, his entire value depends on him hitting. 4) Discuss Sano’s “motivation” with someone else. I’ve never mentioned it and could care less about it. I care about results. His are terrible. 5) As I also mentioned, Sano is “singled out” because his not hitting is THAT big of a deal. Buxton not hitting hurts too. Him being on the DL hurts. But his bat was simply never expected to be anywhere close to impactful as Sano’s. The entire offense is built around Sano. If he can’t be the third or fourth place hitter the Twins need him to be, literally nothing else matters. Because the Twins won’t contend for a title with this core if he isn’t in the middle of it.
  10. Playoffs? Are you kidding me?! PLAYOFFS?!!
  11. Grossman and Garver aren’t supposed to be starters. The starting CF is on the DL. And plenty has been said about his lack of productivity. Plenty has been said about Morrison as well. The fill ins are just that. Fill ins. Sano is hitting about .150 OPS below his career mark. His HR rate is down 1% of his career avg. his K rate is 5 % higher than career avg and BB rate is 3% lower than career rate. This is a player in his 4th season who is supposed to be the cornerstone of the offense. He should be PROgressing not REgressing at this stage of his development. If he doesn’t develop into an all star caliber hitter rapidly, this franchise will be back at square one offensively by mid 2019. Unfairly singled out? No. Sano not hitting is simply THAT big of an impact to this team. That’s the price that comes with the hype that this organization has fed us for the last half decade.
  12. Really? Who’s on first or DH next year? Morrison? Sano? Are you really okay with that unless both show marked improvement? I don’t know’s on third either... And if Buxton doesn’t figure things out the Twins need a new center fielder. They won’t give him forever. If he still hits like crap by end of 2019 he will not be on the team. That will be almost 2000 PA. If a guy can’t figure it out by then, he probably won’t. Same goes for Sano frankly. Still could use 2-3 high end relievers and as promising as Berrios looks, an ace caliber pitcher is always a need.
  13. Is Magill still on the roster? I guess I don’t understand why he didn’t start the 7th inning. You know, when the score was 7-3.
  14. In that case Molitor could have made his point by using Hughes and the rule 5 guy (yes, I have already forgotten his name) in higher leverage spots due to the lack of options. Would they have failed? Probably. But, if I’m Molitor I go the press conference and say “I gotta use the guys I have.” That shifts the blame to Falvine for having 2 useless pitchers on the roster for 4-5 weeks.
  15. Brian Dozier has a career .776 OPS. It’s sitting at .728 now. That’s literally a couple good days at the plate. Even at the low to mid .800 range of the past couple years would take just a hot week or 10 days. I’m not against trading him, but to say he has “lost effectiveness” is simply not accurate.
  16. I remember him taking a one hop smash off the bat of Jose Canseco. It knocked out a couple teeth as I recall.
  17. Looks like it will let up enough by 7 or 8.
  18. Or maybe not. That might be a game changer there.
  19. Looks like we are seeing Evil Lynn tonight.
  20. Sano in the 7 spot. Interesting. I haven’t been playing close enough attention this last week. Is that new tonight or has it been done already? It should certainly get his attention. Sometimes that’s all it takes. I remember back in 1991 TK pinch hit for Kent Hrbek early in the year vs a LHP. Once with the forgettable Carmello Castillo and then with Al Newman. It certainly got his message through. Hrbek ended with a .797 OPS vs LHP, which was pretty close to his overall OPS that year. In 1990, he had about a .150 point spread. Edit: Geez, I just looked Castillo up. He had a -1.2 bWAR for his career. The guy was in the bigs for parts of ten seasons. That has to be almost impossible.
  21. Hence why I have been saying sending him to AAA now serves no useful purpose. Not specifically to you, but it has definitely been suggested by many.
  22. I think he needs to learn to use all fields. I think that has caused his ridiculously low career .266 BABIP. He makes contact at a solid enough rate, draws his share of walks, hits line drives at a good clip. The next step is using all fields. Given the way he seems to have solved lhp in one offseason, I certainly think it is a step he is capable of making.
